The only part he did wrong was made it too narrow, and instead of getting a monitor that would fit inside, he just hacked away at the cabinet he made.
So close, yet so far away.

Looks like another victim of monitor paranoia. Every time someone mentions decasing, they get warnings of lightning bolts from the tube leaping 20 feet through the air to kill them. :D
-
...and he wants $300 for it and it doesn't come w/ an ipac? So that's $100 for the TV, $60 for the controls, and.... $140 for the wood and loving care?
-
with all due respect....
Yes his aracade machine is plug ugly. That was a silly thing to do with the TV. And I'm scared of those 20 trillion volt strikes ;D
But to be honest- our cabinets only look good to those of us in the hobby. They are not italian designer furniture. They are big ugly heavy complicated montrosities to anyone else. As a test- ask your partner(non sexist) - "hey darling I think my new 4 player upright cab with a 32" CRT, lightguns. a trackball, lighted buttons and a nice black cabinet with artwork would look great in our lounge room next to your new white leather sofa. What do you think?" :laugh2:
For those of you whose partners say "Yes darling I agree"- well you are fortunate and unnusual. I'm betting the majority of us would have our partners seriously doubting our sanity......
So don't be too harsh- whats gorgeous to you is ugly to someone else....

Not to get too off topic here. Who the ---fudgesicle--- owns a white leather sofa and owns an arcade cabinet?

yeah looks bad but I dont think the price is unfair.
Considering I dumped over $100 just on my desk mod to make a CP, and have seen just the wood kits to build a cabinet go for $500+
This one has stuff with it already. Looks like a coin mech, cabinet, monitor, and a pc without a hdd, marquee work, lighting, wood looks finished, speakers + more. So this is like the ugly duckling, based a pure price vs what you get comparison it seems like a good deal.
I cant see any conceivable way to build this yourself for $300 or less unless you had most of the stuff already.
Just most people wouldnt be happy with it.
Id pick it up if I didnt have the diy attitude and stick it in the kids game room or something and let them have at it.
Plus im sure it could be fixed up with a different screen and encased property without too much effort.

People in the hobby find it ugly. I think thats why the link was posted. :dunno

Ah, is that why I still don't have an arcade cabinet. I own a white leather sofa!
-
Ive seen much worse and have the seller asking for a lot more then $300. I think its a fair deal for someone who wants a mostly done cab and isn't too concerned with looks.
-
I don't have a white leather sofa or do I want one - but I do have 3 pinballs and 2 cabs! They are nowhere near the lounge room though! ;D

Nah. People not in the hobby still like the looks of my machine. It's not the prettiest, but it's quite a looker. It helps that I duplicated a classic (Centipede), one of many cabinets from that era that were designed to "attract" people to them. :burgerking:
I'm being a little over-the-top egotistical but I believe aesthetics are important - from not having 50 "random color" buttons on your panel to buying a display that you won't have to butcher the sides to fit. You can't just hide these things in the closet. Pretty 'em up a little.

Actually my design plans do fit in a closet, and its portable so you can take it to a party or friends house :P but thats a different story :P

I'm not sure I'd be willing to pull apart a TV to build a cab and my idea for a cab running off a PS2 would require a componant 480i TV. However, I sure as hell wouldn't to THAT to the cab. Worst case, I'd take the TV to a TV Repair shop and ask them to disassemble and discharge it for me so I could mount and install it without the case. o_o

Seriously, it's not all that scary....no, wait, obviously it is. It's not really all that dangerous....okay, no wait it is. But only if you're unconfident and don't know what you're doing. It's really pretty simple. I've changed out a chassis, pulled a couple monitors apart an all, and I'm still here.

That's when you build it big enough for the TV, case and all, to fit inside. ;)
