Title: Arcade Life Style in Miami / Florida ?
Post by: Darth Nuno on May 02, 2009, 01:45:33 am
I'll go in two weeks to Miami for holiday.

What are the 'MUST SEE' places I've to plan there ? ...'ArcadeLifeStyle' related of course  Wink

I'll be in Miami beach, but I'll rent a car, so I can move in Florida  8)

What about Twin Galaxies or Fun Spot ... are they located in Florida? I can't find the address  :-\

Thanks for your advises

Twin Galaxies & Fun Spot are both NOT in Florida.  You could visit Ricky's,  which is Billy Mitchell's restaurant.  You could visit Shmokes... I think he lives there.

Fun Spot is probly 800 miles away. On Malenko's note, you could look out for the bang bus (HAHAHAHAH). But you may not wanna get on. Or maybe you would.

Damn fine collection at Disney Quest there. I'm adding that to my 'sites to visit when I travel one of these days' list.

Sorry, is it the Brits that drive on the left?

Haha, yep, the Brits and Irish are the only ones who drive on the wrong side in Europe.  Sweden was the only country on mainland Europe that once drove on the left. They switched in the year I was born so that's some time ago ;)

I've drivven plenty of times in the UK and I don't have any problems with it.

Never drivven a right-steered car though, I think that _would_ be strange, shifting with left hand....

Once or twice I was a passenger in a right-hand steered car, and I kept having the urge to have to drive because I was sitting at the left side of the car.......very weird feeling.

Back on topic now, Bruno, have a great holiday and (needless to say I guess) take lots of pics :D

Mm, no ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---, I'm curious to experience that. As for shifting, 99% of cars over here are automatic. That many over there still standard?

Yes, the vast majority of people in Europe still know how to drive properly ;)

In this country it's about 10% automatic. I personally have nothing against automatic though, in fact I'd like to drive one since I do a lot of traffic jams.

Lots of people here think it's more "sportsman like" to have stick-shift but the majority simply dont want to pay the (quite substantial) extra money for an automatic box.

Automatic _is_ slowly gaining ground here though (because of traffic jams hassle mostly).

I can reflect on a time when you couldn't drive 5 miles without running into a good arcade here in florida. Now its all gone with the wind. If you're going to Miami, you might want to check to see if Boomer's is still open, they're a north of Hollywood beach in Dana? but its not too far from Miami. That was hell of an arcade, I was in there maybe 3 years back and it still had quite a big selection, maybe its gone not sure.

Actually there is a 'Fun Spot' in FL but not the epic legendary Fun Spot everyone is talking about. These are mainly go-kart tracks and rides etc. They do have small dinky arcades, nothing noteworthy, one in Kissimmee and another in Orlando. The Orlando location has a "free play arcade" where they took some old games and made it like $5 to play all you want, I know thats still in operation but cant give you a good run down, some mid 90s titles in there. Another spot in orlando is the Midway on international drive, they have some small arcade but I think that probably sucks too.

DisneyQuest has some very nice classic preservations if you want to foot the $30+ door charge. Rocky's Replay in Orlando is still around (for now) but has nothing impressive IMO, not nearly what it was back in its day, all deluxe games now.

Sorry to dissapoint, get in your time machine and travel back to 93-94 if you want to be in arcade heaven here.

Not to hijack your thread but in Jan 2010 there is going to be a big pinball and video game show down there.

Here is a link its Jan 28-31st http://www.floridaape.org/home.htm

I have spoken with the promoter and it sounds like its going to be pretty cool! There used to be another show but it stopped a couple of years back but the new fellow is friends with the originator and is bringing it back.

Here is the one hall where the free games are to be set up
