I got a tip from fellow member CyberFlex that there was a game sitting between the tracks and the floodwall in downtown huntington over the weekend - but he only got a glance of it. His wife gave him the veto stinky face, so I decided to give it a go. I thought for sure it would fit in my Ford Escape, but after actually measuring with the back seat down, it wasn't even close. I knew it would be sticking out and I would have to strap the hatch down.
Got to the site, and there sat a Championship Sprint that was mostly complete. The only thing that turned out missing was the wiring harnesses. Weird huh? I figure a bum stole the wiring for copper scrap.
Anways, the machine had obviously been sitting there for some time. The 3/4" particle board was now 1.25" flaky board. I didn't bring any tools to strip it, so I decided to go ahead and shove it in the back of the car. Besides, I would have felt like a tool myself for standing there by the tracks stripping a game. What if a cop came by?
Got that badboy in, and took off...damn that thing stunk! I was coughing and sneezing, opening all the windows seemed to make it worse. Got it home, unloaded it, and here is what I present to you:

Needless to say, there is no way in hell I will take that stinky thing inside my gameroom! It is without a doubt, a total loss as a cabinet. I have taken off the CP - which is in great shape - and the boards. I thought they would be okay, but they have stunk up my gameroom. The whole place smells musty and faintly of rats nest. :-X
Eventually, I will take the monitor & boards up to Wade's place and test them out. Everything else will be stripped and sold off. It's too bad, because I really wanted a 2 wheeled racing game!
So there you have it - my first "found on the side of the road" find. I think I have pretty much experienced everything a collector can experience except for an auction.

Sad, but in good hands now. Great game. I can't remember if that's the b/w or color version. If it's b/w and you don't need the monitor I know of a good home...

Com'on man, just a little paint and cleaning ;) ;) ;)

Championship Sprint is a system II, Medium Resolution game. Needless to say, I am hoping that the monitor works. >:D
I uploaded the photo for those having trouble seeing it.

Congrats on the find. This is definitely a good game and hopefully you can make something of it. I wish I still had my Paperboy - I planned to get a Championship Sprint kit for it at some point.
My side of the road find was about four years ago, my Rock-Ola 469 jukebox. New needle, grease on the inside, cleaning on the outside, and it was good as new. I had a whole lot of help on that find though ;D

Is the tube burn free? Worst case, perhaps you can salvage it.
The pedal assembly is worth a little dough as well. ..and of course the coin door.
Is the marquee broke or just the plexi?

and of course the coin door.
Is that still the case? Seems that coin doors go for next to nothing anymore.

I stripped most everything out last night. The tube has burn, but it is non-descriptive. Looks like there is a bit of dirt around the edges on the inside of the glass. I will be taking the monitor up to Wade's and testing thru his VR setup. It would be totally sweet if the monitor is good. That will make the whole venture worthwhile in value.
Marquee is just fine. What you see is a wrinkle in the translite. That is a glass marquee front instead of plexi. Everything is in surprisingly good condition for a game that has been outside for so long.
Washed the boards last night, will wash the monitor and random stuff tonight hopefully.
I've posted this as a part out on KLOV. If anyone here needs misc. parts for a system II cab, they are available. The monitor and boards are awaiting testing, so they aren't quite available yet.

i love finding stuff on the side of the road. my best one was a gutted mortal combat that i saw from the bus. it was frozen to the alley i found it in. i called the wife to come meet me with the minivan. i first stripped out everything worth while and was gonna leave it, but i just couldn't. so i sat there with atire iron prying it up out of the ice so i could load it in my minivan all while the wife and baby sat inside watching me with the "patented wife stinkeye" but once i got it home, repainted and my whole setup inside of it, it ended up being one of my most used cabs.
i havent seen any roadside find around me in a few years.... i miss those days

Oh, and there was an ant colony in the marquee area once I opened it up. Pretty nasty, but if that's all I have to deal with then I consider myself lucky.

The ants ate the wiring harness.

Nah, the backlight wiring was still intact.

Cleaned up parts:
If anyone recognizes the med. res. monitor chassis, by all means let me know.
The Bleche White + hose spray down cleaning method works awesome. That monitor was totally nasty before cleaning.

Watch what it does to that grass, though.
That stuff does look super clean. Nice job!

That control panel looks pretty nice!!! Of course the monitor does too, but I knew how that would go. :)

As long as it takes that bastard mole/vole/whatever tearing up my yard with it!

I believe you have a WG K4900. I didn't take a very close look, but at first glance it looks like my Paperboy monitor.

That appears to be the medium res version of the 4900. Which is a 5500, I think. You can identify it by that extra daughter PCB.
