Ok so which game intro do you consider to be the best to simply listen to/watch on your cab?
Maybe your favorite intro for when people come over to visit or maybe the intro you let roll while just kickin back? The intro with the best ambiance/visuals?
After all, I think a bunch of intros playing at once in an Arcade is what brings most of us back in time. They are what I stared at when I was broke and had no quarters!!
Right now:
Guwange takes the cake. It has to have one of the best intros I've ever seen.
-
I guess we can count pre and post quarter insert?
Just off the top of my head...
I like the start of start of Dragon Spirit where the guy holds the sword up and turns into a dragon.
I like the intro to N.A.R.C. The way the dealer on the video screen says "It's the NARCs man!" is just so cheesy and over-the-top funny.
Battletoads is really cool with one of the toads typing on his wrist computer with the badass theme playing.
One of my least favorite is Street Fighter 2. Who are these two nobodies fighting at the beginning? Are they like minor league dorks trying to get to earn their costumes so they can be on the world circuit? And then it shows a building. Wow, a plain building with the logo.

Sometimes I just leave my PS2 running the attract loop to have this going in my room. I really need to rig up my own capture card and make an 'Attract Mode Collection' of sorts for stuff like this.

Dragon's Lair. As a kid, I watched that intro video hundreds of time. With sound like every 5th time too! ;D.
Also, Samurai Shodown has a great intro. The text is in Engrish, but I love seeing Hoahmaru sitting there meditating while the cherry blossoms fall over him. Plus watching Ukyo and Hoahmaru fight it out is great too.
Finally, there was always something about Rastan for me, especially when they had demo sounds turned on.

Defender or any other game with a black background and fluorescent colors is the best to me.
-
i like the killer instinct intro because it states that its coming in 1995 only on the ultra 64, which was renamed to nintendo 64 and the game actually came out on super nintendo.
-
Dragon's Lair is hard to beat. But one of my favorite intro's was Space Fury was particularly cool for its time.
-
I like the DK intro. It is effective in setting the stage and telling what little story there is. Plus the music rules.
-
Turn off the lights, think Freddy Jason, and put on Splatterhouse III(3) for Genesis.......great stupid intro
-
dragons lair ftw!!!

Second vote for KI, purely for the amazing overpowering sound and music. Soul Edge also had an amazing startup song and video, if only on PS1.
Ever notice how some games showed you precisely dick all about the game? Like those that showed a demo of a really inept player getting their ass handed to them for about 5 seconds before returning to the title screen?

I hate those. I'm guessing the idea behind it was to get the player motivated to drop coins by making him think "I could do better than that." But it just annoyed me. I always like the demos where they actually show a well played game and a few levels. Of course, that's back when I was a cheap, broke kid who just stared at the game over screen.

and gameboy!
I like MKII, and NBA Jam TE, cause in JamTE you can play a hidden tank game for free!
MvC2 just because of character appeal
-
Gundam Wing: Endless Duel for the SNES.
-
Also, Samurai Shodown has a great intro.
All of the Samurai Showdowns is the first thing that popped in my head.
-
I seem to remember Garou: Mark of the Wolves is pretty good.
Sunset Riders intro is cool, can't think of any others atm...
-
Well, mine is not really an intro per se, but a cut scene. Ms. Pacman takes the cake for me. I loved watching those "Acts". All 3 tell a story. Way ahead of it's time.

For consoles, you can't beat Revenge of Shinobi on the Genesis. I shat bricks as a kid when I first saw it.
-
Street Fighter Alpha 2, i remember running that all the time in attract on my Sega Saturn then pc(when the XoR's were released) when I wasn't using it.
-
Cliff Hanger attract mode video is pretty cool. You can find it on Youtube.
I saw a kid get through the entire game. He would occasionally shake the machine to make the laserdisc skip. It would land on other parts of the cartoon, and and he could get video to play on its own. Pretty cool ending too.

Didn't have to think about it.
Pepsiman for the Psx1. I don't think it was released in America, but I get a kick out of that game.
Its the main reason I bought a psx1. Funny intro, the main character runs right into the title. Funny in a Naked Gun sort of way.

That's an attract mode. DL doesn't have an intro. Anyways, I for some reason was immediately thinking music intro....

After my last post, thought I'd stick some video on here as they are just too cool:

The best part of each of these is when the music sequence really kicks in on each (ie Mitsurugi's segment on Soul Edge, KI logo/text segment on Killer Instinct).

Technically, what is an intro? When does Dragon's Lair introduce you to the game's theme, characters, and gameplay concepts? Well that would be in the opening intro video which plays every few seconds, right? The intro IS the attract mode. The attract mode video IS the game's introduction. It's a floor wax AND a dessert topping. They got chocolate in my peanut butter.
If we're talking intro strictly speaking after you press start or put a quarter in, I like Castlevania Symphony of the Night. You play as Richter Belmont and finish Castlevania Bloodlines as the introduction of Symphony of the Night. Friggin' awesome.

Xmen or dragons liar

Arcade = Dragons Lair... Really was quite mesmerizing
Console = Resident Evil... "NO Don't Go!!" Cheestastic!
