Post by: Firebat138 on April 25, 2009, 02:58:14 pm
Well...  I figured I would start a little thread with pics of my work...  Here is the start...It will be mainly focused around Metal Gear and Splinter Cell...  I know these are NOT arcades....But I love them still...  :-)  Here are the latest set of pics...  I am NO woodworker....and if the price is right and one of my friends wants it....I will just build another....lol

Yup...I never picked up a sheet of MDF before...Geezz..  LOL...Thanx...Yes...It is coming together nicely...  I am putting in an old Dell Precision 340. Pent 4 - 2.4 gig with about 512 Ram and a Radeon 7000 Vid...  This computer was awesome, but the Ram is SO expensive to buy...LOL...  SO...For now, that will do....  I am gonna use Maximus for now...I really havent checked out many others, but for now....I like it...  I of course am doing an intro movie, as I am a 3D Computers Graphics dude and it's my thing...  :-)  Someting with a little THX intro music and etc....More to come...  Just gotta get the TV figured out... and buy my controler from Scott over at Mameroom...Cant wait for that...  Thanx for the comments....  I will post some demos of the Sideart as well...

Yet another update....I added some artwork and moved the cabinet in it's final resting place...  This cabinet couldnt be any cooler to me at least...LOL...  Of course the entire theme is Metal Gear and Splinter Cell.  So I have a little Snake vs Sam thing going on...Just gotta get the controller...  anyone have an extra $1000.  :-)

Here is the front view

Due to the nature of this project, being not rally arcade based...lol...  I am applying the side artwork onto 3/16" Gatorboard and attaching it to the sides.  I may use some sort of molding to cover up the edges, but the artwork is not mine and if I ever sell it, I want to keep it...

I of course am doing an intro movie, as I am a 3D Computers Graphics dude and it's my thing...  :-)  Someting with a little THX intro music and etc

Nice to see someone else into 3D Computer Graphics.  The cab is coming along nicely BTW.  I look forward to seeing your THX intro, I've done something similar for my home cinema, its not really on topic for this forum, but I may share it, (or mod it to suit mame) if anyones interested.

I wouldn't mind seeing that intro for your home theater set-up...

Looks great!  :)

Love the sideart. I don't seem to see many cabs with full side art. I really do think it takes the cab up a notch.

What controls are you going for? How come you are buying a pre-made CP? It looks like you have the skills to make your own.

Ok, I'll see what I can do, but not in Firebat138's nice shiny new thread!  I think there's an 'Other hobbies' thread somewhere  I'll link to it in there......

I am gonna go with the Quad from Mameroom....I would love to build it and save the money, but electrical is NOT my thing...  LOL...

Yes...I love the sides...  What do you guys think about the gatorboard idea...

The THX intro is coming a long a little...It's only gonna be about 10 sec...  Just a little MAME GEAR explosion, but I want it to melt back into the text...  Trying to figure that out...

Here is a sample of the bezel artwork

Here is a little update...  Got the artwork printed and mounted on the foamcore...  Cut and centered it up and it is ready for mounting on the Cab...Check it out...

All the artwork is from deviantart.  All the artists over there are awesome and I emailed every single one of them and got permission...   So hats off to the Original artists...

I did the layout in PS...  Mounted them on Black Gator board, so I can exchange them if I want...  Who knows... I will probably never do it...But oh well..

Just a little cutting

Here it is on the Cab, but I still need to cut out the excess a little more...

CUt and ready for gluing or whatever I decide...lol

NHL Finals in the background

Here is the Metal Gear Side...  Not trimmed yet...

Custom Chuck Norris poster...I sell these BTW.  :-)

So, it is coming together...  Still deciding on screen and etc...  I sell these Chuck Norris posters for $25.00 each... or cheaper for smaller sizes....  If I sell like 40 of them...I can get the Controls.  :-)  End shameless plug.  :-)

Holy ess!  I love the sideart.  It's dazzling, but not confusing.  I'm kinda with ya on the "not arcade game" thing though.  Once you stop and pay attention, you think, "Hey, wait a minute..."

No problem...  SNAAKE...

Yeah...  The next one I build will be a little bartop touch screen for the tiki bar, and that one will have some retro arcade stuff.... but for now...

So here is the final build...  Complete with Guns by Drakin and the Control Panel by Jack Thompson.  All other artwork and building was by me.

I would actually argue that Metal Gear is...or rather was very  much an arcade game...the original game on the MSX "was" an arcade game in terms of gameplay..albeit one that came out on a computer.   The controls, the graphics...everything on the original screams arcade...so with that spirit...I personally love the theme :)

Guess you tossed the screen for a widescreen LCD? Or did you do some fancy Photoshop perspective control?

Mike I hope you realize this is a 5 year old thread, that being said if the poster is still active on the forum a Pm would probably get a quicker response.
