Like the title says. Just played it for the first time. I don't see the appeal in this game.

Naaaaaah man! It's excellent - it was popular as hell in the UK. The cocktail cab version was great and we loved the Spectrum version. Gets much more challenging as it goe round.

One of the all time classics

I'm hear ya. I never "got it" either, though I did like the NES game.
Maybe someday I'll play it and enjoy it. It was just the other day that I started to like Joust. I've NEVER liked Joust, but had a game where it showed me why it's so loved.

Agreed, the challenge is picking up the bombs in sparking sequence (while dodging the baddies), to get upto the 50,000 bonus.
Awesome game. Got so many versions of it including PCB, but always loved the Amstrad CPC version.

i've found that there are alot of games that seem stupid at first, but if you really give them a chance, they are awesome.
for the longest time, i never saw why people liked Donkey Kong so much. it was very difficult and frustrating....i set the high score on my freind's cabinet at 16,000, which is very low, and it stayed like that for a long time. but then a few weeks ago, a few of us started playing again and really started to get into it. it can still be very frustrating, but also very rewarding when you do well. the other day i set a new high score at 85,100...and let me tell you, that feels awesome when you have a good turn like that.
while i havent really played bomb jack, there seems to be a pretty big following for it, so I say give it a chance before you just dismiss it..it could be really good.

I don't think I ever played Bomb Jack in the arcade, but have a few times on MAME. I thought it was a neat game, although a bit frustrating at times ;D I like the background music too.
-
Hmm. Just didn't seem to be much to it. Essentially it's a clear the maze, non-maze game, of which I figured there was some combination deal, of whatever kind it wasn't obvious to me off the bat.

It's a good game for its era once you learn its nuances. It's a bit hard to get into by today's standards since the character doesn't control like we expect a "platform jumper" to control (this is pre-Super Mario Bros).
You clear the board of bombs, but maximize points by grabbing the coins and killing enemies when super-powered. The key to playing well is to use the jump button again when falling, to slow down your fall (not quite a "hover", but let's you have more control on where to land).
I've never considered Bomb Jack to be a top 10 favorite or anything, yet I dumped a lot of quarters into it when it originally came out (as well as playing the C64 version).

I loved the C64 version and was a little disappointed with the arcade one (I never saw an original so played only in Mame).
I too played the Amstrad CPC version as I owned one, but I never liked it as much as on the C64 (large sprites, better music...)

This is one of those games that I REALLY suck at :hissy:
But if you put it in front of me I will keep playing it for ages
-
The C64 version is easily my favorite because of the kick ass music.
-
Well, I gave it another spin. Um, no. Interesting that when he dies, the 'spinning' sound is much like what will be the spinning sound for Sonic.
-
It's the best game EVER! and I won't hear any different :-)
I've been playing it A LOT on my mame arcade cab for the past few weeks. I love it so much I bought the PCB. Now to find another cab to put it in!
-
My fav game EVAR!!!1 ;D
Used to play this for hours. In fact I discovered MAME looking for an arcade perfect version to play on my PC.
-
Huge coincidence, but I've been playing the hell out of bombjack the last couple days. Even got my girlfriend addicted. It's an awesome game. Very challenging too..give it a chance!

Jean Michel Jarre - Magnetic Fields Part 2 I believe!
The title screen music was good too.
