Title: Twitter
Post by: MustardTent on April 23, 2009, 03:08:18 pm
Anybody on twitter?  I signed up, but still trying to figure out if it's useful.  Maybe it's the kind of thing that is only worthwhile if your friends/relatives are on...

I enjoy it; prefer micro blogging over macro blogging ;-) http://twitter.com/PromoMotion

Personally I'm sick of hearing about Twitter every freakin day for the last month or so. This pretty much sums up Twitter:

Someone forwarded me this link today - this seems like a good place to share it.

If Shaq & Oprah are using Twitter, then I am certain I don't need to be.

One of the greatest wastes of the non-visible parts of the electromagnetic spectrum.

I'm proud to say i have no idea what twitter is, other than it's something politicians and other famous people out of the loop use to make them seem 'hip'...

Dem Sysop....
He has a script running on the servers that renames all instances of Pooper, poop, Twittering etc in HTML,PHP and ASP pages into Pooper, Poop, Pooping for whole the school. LOL.
He hates Twitter.

I assume twitter is just like the "What are you thinking now" thing on Facebook. 99% of the time, that function is silly too.

The irony that people who post random crap on an arcade site are making fun of this is comical in itself.  I may have to twitter this.

I consider this forum 'conversing' much more than I consider it 'posting random thoughts to make it appear I'm cool'.

The real irony is that I vividly remember when you HATED EE, and were pissed at me for bringing non-arcade related talk into a thread. I've been meaning to get around to it, but now I can make it official:

Welcome to the brotherhood!  ;D

Sadly, you're probably right.
Twittering is supposed to be about keeping people updated about stuff. I could see the benefits of say, your favorite band announcing a new concert date and you as a subscriber to their "Tweets" get instant notification.   but... the idea everybody has something worth following or being heard about? That cartoon nails it.

Now, who wants to subscribe to my arcade restoration twitterings?  ;D You'll get instant notification the minute something gets repainted or even looked at!

Waste of bandwidth IMO. For the most part so is Facebook.

I use twitter, but for something a little different than blogging.
I'm a member of A.G.E which is a forum for adults that play video games on the consoles. They have game nights and tournaments. A lot of the guys that I game with are spread around the US and we figured its a pretty easy way to let each other know we are going online to play for a bit so if anyone wants to join hop on.

I have twitter tied to my phone through texting so I text to twitter and they all get the message I'm going online without me having to going to my computer. pretty convenient if your not around a computer.

At 38 I already feel old considering I have never sent a text message.  I remember reading about twitter in some PC mag a year or two ago.  It has exploded here lately and I am sick of hearing about it but whatever.  I guess if people enjoy the voyer aspect of it then more power to them.

I don't really think it would be of any use for me. Why would anyone want to read:

Driving 120 miles to work
Working
Driving 120 miles home
Playing Ms. Pac-Man
Cooking Tofu
Eating Tofu
Playing Galaga
Watching a Movie
Getting up
Having a shower

...Start list over

Better yet, why would anyone feel like typing out that ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- for all to see? Here is a sampling of the worthless stuff on my  Facebook "What are you up to" newsfeed thing:

 - makin' chocolate chip cookies!
- (name removed)  feels like total death today.
- WTFs! Are people really complaining about the heat already? (This one is from a fellow KLOV and byoac'er)
-  ARRRGGGHH! ! ! ME... HATE... WORK ! ! ! !
-  Stuff I alway have on me, unless I'm in a hurry and forget (this line is followed by 5 pics of things EVERYONE has on them when out and about.  ::))

...this is with most people removed from what I can see.

Now there are a handful of people on there that use this function for good uses. This is why I don't turn it completely off.

I have no desire to 'twitter'.
