Title: I have an idea and curious if i have all the details right
Post by: R0UNDEYEZ on April 20, 2009, 03:19:10 am
Ok currently my arcade controller has a computer in the base of it running mame with mala as a frontend,it has an ipac4 running 4 players with 6 buttons each plus start and coin.for video I run s-video to my television. eventually its going to live in a fullsize cabinet of its own, but space is a big issue at this point and this is something i have room for.I am always thinking of ways to upgrade it in ways that are easy to port over to when its moved to a fullsize cab.I got this idea and I wanted to basicly run it by you guys since i want to make sure i have my facts straight from this research i have been doing.
I would like to be able to use these controllers to also run real games as well, so if i bought one of these: http://www.jammaboards.com/store/images/uploads//JAMMA_Harness_FULL_548x480.JPG
to interface with the board and then get one of these: http://www.jammaboards.com/store/images/uploads/CV-04/RGB_2_Video_Converter_WM_640x427_LR.jpg
so i could output to s-video, and something like this: http://www.wiringproducts.com/contents/media/2109h-outlined.jpg  to piggyback the jamma harness and the wires coming from my ipac into the buttons and joysticks. and get the 5 and 12 volts off the power supply of the pc. that would work right?
anything i'm over looking? for the 5 and 12 volts i need would i be better buying a dedicated power supply?

I was wondering if I had it in the right spot or not... should I repost it? or will a mod move it?

It's pretty much the opposite of the way I would do it, which is wire the cab as standard JAMMA and use an arcade monitor, then interface with the PC using a JPac for players 1/2 and IPac2 for players 3/4. Then I would use a JAMMA switch to flip between the JAMMA board and the PC.

I don't think there are too many Supergun folks here and they would be your best source of info.

Also note that some JAMMA boards require -5V.

well, having a real arcade monitor would be pretty nice, but a little harder for me to swing than the option i came up with... not to mention my first main intention was only mame so thats why i'm only just now interested in the jamma thing.I havent come across a jamma switch.. i will have to look for something like that since i was trying to find a way to have it on some sort of switch rather than having to plug and unplug them as i want to use them.
