Title: cheat problem
Post by: mr_doles on April 19, 2009, 02:54:29 pm
For the past 3 days I have been trying to get the cheats working on my Mame machine.  I have read every article here, the mamecheat website and googled the heck out of it.  I am missing something but I can't figure it out.  :banghead:

I have the cheat.zip (for use with .130u2 which is the newest one out there) in the correct spot.  The mame.ini has been modified correctly.  When I run a game (that I did verify has a cheat in the xml file) I get error parsing cheat expression "maincpu.pb@xxxxxx=xx (the x's change per game).  I know Mame sees the xml as the maincpu.pb is listed in the action xml node in the xml file.

The only thing that I can think is that I need to have a cheat.zip designed for .128 and not .130u2.  If that is the case I find no mention of one existing.

Please tell me I am doing something simple wrong here.

EDIT: If it matters I am running version .128 with the hiscore diff applied.

Yes it is set to 1 in the mame.ini file.  It has to be set up correctly because Mame does read the xml file I keep getting the parse error on all the games.

Yeah I got this one working the way I want it too (except for the cheat part), really don't want to setup everything again just for that.  Anyone else got any suggestions?  Was there a cheat.zip for .128?  Is anyone using .128 with the cheats turned on?

From www.mamecheat.co.uk
The 0.130u2 XML cheat collection won't work with MAME 0.128, there was a major change in 0.129u5 which is what you are seeing.

You should upgrade to 0.130u4.

Don't want to upgrade as it will break some of my games so I guess I don't get to use this then.  :hissy:
