Title: Help with MameWah - locks up on warning screen
Post by: mccall on July 01, 2003, 09:28:32 pm
I hope someone can help me with this problem. My install of Mamewah locks up on games that give the "Warning: the game might not run correctly" warning screen, such as Lunar Lander and Arkanoid (US). I'm sure it's probably a setting I have wrong.

I'm running Windows command line Mame .69, MameWah .95b, Windows 98SE. The affected games will load when entered at the command line and show the "warning - press any key" screen. They will load after any key is pressed. Under MameWah they hang on the "loading" screen and force a hard reset.

I have Mame.ini set to not display the disclaimer or game info. Other warning screens (bad video emulation, no sound, etc.) do show and do not hang MameWah.

Any idea what setting I have to change to get them to load?

I believe this problem occurs in mosts FE's...it only happens with games which have bad ROMs.  The warning screen appears before MAME has switched to full screen, so you never see the warning.

2 options:

1) Compile your own build that skips the 'press any key' part (I always used to do this).

2) Try MAME v0.70, it seems to 'press any key' automatically and not wait (for me at least)

Hope it helps...

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping that there was a setting in mame.ini I could change or insert to supress the "press any key" warning screen, like you can supress the disclaimer and game info, but it looks like that's not the case. I'll look into the two options you listed. In the meantime I'll just leave the affected games off my lists to prevent the lockups.

There are actually 3 options, I just remembered another:

3) Set the 'Show DOS Box' to 'Yes'

The 'Auto' function should only show the DOS box for these affected games, but this is broken atm, and also is slower to launch the games since it verifies the romset first.
