I am trying to get the PC version of HOTD to work. I've installed troubleshooter and player 1 works fine. But I can't get player 2 to work at all. I can see the ammo but it uses player 1. Any clues to what I am doing wrong?
-
Although I may be mistaken, I think Player 2 on the PC version is hardcoded to be played via the keyboard.
-
I'm not saying your wrong as I have no idea, but that would really suck!
-
having mucked about with the PC version a bit and having it on CD i also may be mistaken but i think it is hardcoded too.
Why don't you check out the Sega Model 2 Emulator http://nebula.emulatronia.com/descargas.php (http://nebula.emulatronia.com/descargas.php) it emulates HOTD1 much better than the pc version does anyway!
-
is this true? what about for house of dead 2 and 3? I bought an extra guncon 2 just for these!
-
HOTD2 and 3 have a controller page to choose from mouse, keyboard and gamepad i don't have 2 usb mice to try it out with at the moment but im pretty sure it should be do-able, HOTD1 on PC was pretty poor i had major problems even installing it.
-
Yes I have model2 running- but HOTD staggers when running it. The machine in the cab is a P4 with 1 gig of ram on XP. Its good for mame but I suspect underpowered for M2
-
:( that's a bugger! i'm never near my arcade machine and as have only found out about this model 2 emulator have been running it on my vista AMDx2 4gig ram home PC ;D ..which is a piece of junk and if I can get the money together to get a intel dual core it will replace the piece of junk in my arcade machine which is 768mb ram and a sempron!
its a shame it staggers because it runs flawlessly on my pc
with the PC version though.. i know HOTD1 PC is ...awful... but i wonder if it has a gamepad option like HOTD3 ... a light gun is just X/Y right? other than that get to your local computer fair http://www.britishcomputerfairs.com/ as you can pick up stuff dead cheap.
-
Got it- tweaked the PC added some ram and it goes well now. Using Model 2 for Virtua cop, virtua cop 2 and house of the dead. Time crisis is a no go though
-
I don't think Time Crisis in MAME is complete anyway. o.O
-
just to add, make sure you go into the 'service' menu's and change the games to either USA or Export to get rid of Japanese writing and also calibrate the guns.
on a side note Time Crisis in the PS1 emulator works quite well ;D and it does have the 'light gun' /mouse option .. i remember trying it with a ps2 guncon 2 on PC and it didn't quite work but i think that was down to me... should work with some topgun's fine though
-
While it's true, the PS1 port of Time Crisis is a downgraded port. In the arcade it ran on the Super System 22 which was vastly superior to the PlayStation, so it's a lot uglier in the home version. Lower resolution, lower detail models, that 'lumpy jerky' thing that the PlayStation does when rendering 3D objects.
-
OK whilst Player 1 is fine- no player 2? It takes over player 1's crosshair. I've been into the game settings but can't work out what's missing. This is model 2 emulator now- same problem as PC version!
-
I've also played with the emulator.ini. I set Raw input to 1 and both crosshairs are stuck in the top right corner. There is one mouse and 2 topguns on this cab. I see there are settings in emulator.ini for more than 2 mice but I don't understand how to use this. Presuming model 2 recognises topguns as mice? then how do I number each device in the ini file?
EG if I set RawDevP1 to 1 and RawDevP2 to 2, the mouse has P2 crosshair and P1 is stuck in the corner. if I set RawDevP1 to 1 and RawDevP2 to 3, the mouse has P1 crosshair and P2 is stuck in the corner.
If you have them working for both players could I see your emulator.ini file?
-
did anyone figure out how to get some 2 player action on the house of the dead games? I have 2 guncons..Thanks
-
lol give me chance to type xD
Using 2 USB mice a USB wireless ball and a USB wired optical... and the following.. probably not correct settings allowed me to play HOTD 2 player with fully functional fully seperate cross hairs and shooting... hope it helps you guys as it doesn't seem to be posted on the forums anywhere.
UseRawInput=2
RawDevP1=0
RawDevP2=1
cheers  if it works you ow me a pint xD i'll just check it in virtual cop 1 & 2 now.
-
Damn- same problem. still I can get it going with 3 mice but not the topguns. But I didn't know you could use an entry above 1 for use rawinput so I'll play with that later today. Gotta go to work :-[
-
wait all this is for the model 2 emulator right?
-
Yes it is- do you have it working for Player 2?
-
Well I haven't configured it yet and I also have never tryed the model 2 emulator is it hard to set up?
-
Model 2 is easy to setup but can be a little tricky to tie to a front end. I use Mala and have used the one gamelist model shown in this thread which also tells you how to assign the escape key to model 2
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=68419.0
The trick for multiple mice is in the emulator.ini file. M2 is much better for HOTD and also virtua cop 1 and 2
-
Ok and when I was at home and I was looking at the house of the dead 3 pc version controller options I didnt see much of a way for me to map my second guncon..
-
agreed - I can't find it either.
-
Right this is just a thought here... but i've been looking on the act labs website.. at there 'free' troubleshooter ;D
now i got 2 seperate usb mice to shoot and reload in HOTD3 with it BUT the target was jammed to the upper left hand corner... with some guns however this might work so give it a try and let me know
settings are dual USB PC guns and make sure p1 is on a different mouse to p2 and set up HOTD3 for both players to use keyboard... see what happens.

-
The troubleshooter is for PC games only
I'm going to play more with the emulator.ini file
-
I don't know if anyone is still instered, but with the troubleshooter you can play with both guns in hotd, hotd2, hotd3, vcorp and vcorp2.
After install troubleshooter, be sure that you don't remap the keys of the games, and the keyboard is selected to play it.
Go to troublehooter (Lightguns), and select the player 1 and 2 devices. I don't remember what I set here, but you can try some (I think for the Topguns is something like USB Mouse...). Of course, select diferents devices for each game.
Finally, enable the game you want in the 'Games' tab.
Run the game you want.
-
What settings do u select for guncons? And what buttons do i map to the keyboard? I selected key board on hsod3 for both guns and gun 1 moves cursor but doesnt shoot and gun 2 doesnt work at all.. Idk im sure im doing this wrong can i get a step by step 4 guncons? Thanks
-
So ya both my reticules were stuck in the corner anyone figure it out?
-
What are you on now- m2 or PC version of the game?
-
im using the pc version and trying to use troubleshooter...NO matter if I select tv light gun or pc usb lightgun I can get both reticules to show up on the screen and the start buttons to work but neither gun will shoot a bullet when I fire even though the screen flashes. If I can use this tool with guncons and on the of the deads that would be GREAT! Oh and yes I set both guns to keyboard through house of the dead 3 like instructions say.
-
yeh well I'm determined to fix this too. I have both versions so will work on it later today. So far with the PC version I've had the same problem as you. With M2 1 player works well as does the PC version if I make player 1 control the mouse.
-
Ya all the PC house of the deads work amazing with one gun and I dont need to mess with anything but I would love to get some 2 player action..I bought another guncon in hopes of this haha..
-
I wonder since the troubleshooter says change both guns to keyboard if I should map the fire buttons even though it says dont change anything? sighh im sure I can get the guns working in mame when I get home but if I can figure this out I can play all the house of the deads and the virtual cops as well..Any help is appreciated
-
as I said in a previous post- I went home to no power. I'll try this again tonight. From meory I had player 1 firing but player 2 fired gun 1
-
Ok let me know ur results thanks
-
no luck- spent hours on this with no result. I've even emailed the author of the troubleshooter
-
damn..I dont see why it would work with those light guns and no others..
-
OK spent more time on this today. Using the PC version I can get Player 1 gun working OK. But Player 2 is still mapped to Player 1. What I mean by this is that Player 2 shoots and tracks- using Player1 crosshairs and ammo. The other crosshair is on the screen but does not move
Troubleshooter is set to USB lightguns. Does not work on PC light guns
The software is doing something- but it is having trouble coping with two guns
*EDIT*- hotd 2 PC same issue
-
I have attached some images with my configuration: The LCDTopGun Control Panel, Troubleshooting and Hotd. The same happens with hod2, hod3, vcop and vcop2:
01 - To reload shooting offscreen you must have shot of screen option remapped to button 2. Remember that the troubleshooter it is made for the ActLabs guns.
02 - Check the options you have. Mine for the LCDTopguns (using the lastest official drivers is this.
03 - The options fro hotd in the troubleshooter. I like the hide cursor option, and of course, not autoreload (For other games, use the same options).
04 & 05 - game options of hotd pc game. Be sure that player1 is using keyboard and player 2 is using the other. Also be sure you don't remap the keys for the fire buttons. It is highly recommended to use the default keys.
-
 Cananas you beat me !
I just got my first LCD Topgun today ! and figured it out xD i'm still fiddling about with it BUT i feel you should mention the 'keys mapping' aka making button 1 = z and button 2 = x etc
is there a way to command line load profiles in the latest driver? i am sure somewhere i read you could... what is the 'headphone jack' on the base of the gun for?
just about to try this in model 2 now
edit: is there a way to stop model 2 minimizing when playing a game and shooting the edge ?
edit: model 2 although supporting dual mice no problem REALLY doesn't like 1 mouse + 1 topgun :(
having a go with smog's drivers and they seem to be quite nice up to the EMS ones and it will probably allow me to use a standard g-con2 alongside my top gun until i get a second topgun.
-
Ah Canana - we are not worthy :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
It was Option 2 I had wrong. Should have seen it but fixed now- thank you!
HOTD 2 working fine. I am going back to PC for HOTD
David- try setting the topgun driver not to release the cursor to the mouse offscreen. Sems to work a whole lot better. No need to use smogs or acorns drivers- the new genuine beta2 drivers work fine
-
Will this work for guncons? You guys have 2 guns working now?
-
Yes this will work fine. Your guns will be seen as seperate mice by the troubleshooter
-
Just to finalise- I have all troubleshooter PC games working perfectly with 2 players now. Admins- Could this thread be a sticky? Cananas's guide is excellent as it deals specifically with topguns - not covered on the troubleshooters site.
What everyone including me seems to miss is that you must make sure each device(gun) is assigned for each player- and that player1 and 2 are different.
A final tip- with Virtua Cop 2. It will not run in XP with light guns until you change the compatibility to Windows 98. It then runs fine. Also use closemul to run this software from an FE as you need the escape key to work
-

Or you could compile something like these ahk (autohotkey) scripts for a more mame friendly game (they are old, made with different versions of Autohotkey, but they works...):
