Title: Dell 810 laptop recovery disk
Post by: shardian on April 16, 2009, 11:13:50 am
Anyone have a spare copy of this, or know where to get one. Co-worker just got the famous boot error on his lappy. He doesn't have the disk anymore.

What specific to that laptop does he need, really?  Modern versions of windows installer discs have MBR repair utils on them.  If you can get him into the BIOS you shouldn't need the specific recovery disc.

This is the exact problem.

It seems some people can't get a standard XP recovery disk to work. I can get into the bios, but I didn't see anything in particular to do.

You go into the bios so you can set the CD drive to first boot priority.  You'd have to do that anyway to use the recovery disc.  Either way, the commands you need to run are in that article, whether you run them from the gui provided by the dell disc or from an XP boot disc's command prompt.  That should do the trick.
