Title: Freecycle stupidity...
Post by: HaRuMaN on April 15, 2009, 03:13:22 pm
I get some pretty stupid requests from people on Freecycle, but I thought this one I got today was pretty funny:

Quote
[xxxxxxxFC] Wanted: a slot machine that takes real money

I cannot afford much but I'd like a slot machine so I can stop going to the casino and blowing my money. I'd rather put it into a slot machine so I can save it instead.
Thanks for reading this
Anna

That person definitely needs to get some help.   :dizzy:

I have an unkle who has a vintage nickel slot that still works. The thing is pretty fun actually...

I'm not sure what the regs are but if you're not careful it might be possible to get busted for this.

I like playing the gamblers in the UK as it is more more skill than luck.  But with the new emulators, I can play my fav gamblers without parting with any cash.

I can completely understand that guy, just wish there was a Keno machine Emu that played like the ones in Vegas....

At least he is asking for help.  If not directly.

Hope someone gave him the Gamblers Anonymous number.  :)

Damn... someone locally just offered up a 55' mobile home and a 15' fiberglass boat!  Both aging but still usable, it says, just have to be moved.

For those who keep saying Freecycle never turns up anything good... tonight's score:

Fence, mitre gauge, everything is there... it all works... just needs some cleanup love.

Dude actually told me he replaced it with a Ryobi.

Wow, nice find... and why the hell you would want to replace that with a Ryobi??

Solid metal > plastic...  lol

That sucker is heavy, even to someone accustomed to moving vids and pins.  Once cleaned up this should be around until my kids have to take it away from me.   ;D

Today's Freecycle stupidity:

We see those pop up all the time here, some obviously not worth the effort.
It's the cost of moving one that'll kill ya though.

Dude actually told me he replaced it with a Ryobi.

Helluva score.
Replaced it with a Ryobi ....  ::)

I've all but given up on freecycle in my area.  There are twice as many requests as there is offers and the only good offers are gone <10 minutes after posting.

I prefer the free section on craigslist.  A lot of postings have pictures which is a definite plus and in my experience the stuff doesn't move quite as fast for some reason.

I got that same saw from the CL in my area too. I still use it today. You got lucky getting the extension wings with it -- they're selling for $25 each on eBay right now, and shipping is killer, since they're solid iron.

Have you guys tried the 'CL viewer (http://www.craigstoolbox.com/)' plug in for Firefox?

OH MY GAWD......it literally changed my life...

Looks pretty neat, but it costs money.  WTF, I would never pay for an extension for firefox which is a free browser...

Here's the extension, in its version 2.0 form. I downloaded it a few years ago, back when it was free.  ;D

Just open the .xpi file with firefox, and you're good to go.

One caveat: I think there's a limit to the version of firefox that it will work with. I'm currently using 3.0.12 and it still works with it.

There's a "free" section on the DFW Craigslist here. On a lark, I put up "A hive of bees in an owlhouse" on there (it was real, I wanted them gone). My phone rang off the hook till I took the ad down.

And I'd called several companies to get rid of them, was quoted 175+$  :dizzy:
