Bought the official Guitar Hero controller so I could have two controllers for GH: Metallica.
Now, playing the GH controller, I'm constantly failing notes that I know I'm nailing. I also found that this only happens when I strum down. If I play all the notes strumming up, I nail them all. Is this like a 'rebound' problem where the strum bar bounces back too hard and is recording a double hit?
???

That is a problem I had with 2 of the GH3 Les Paul controllers, and now have with the World Tour guitar as well.
It seems that they just use some crappy microswitches.

What did you do to fix it, or did you just return the guitar?
-
I returned the two Les Paul guitars.
I just ran into the problem with the World Tour guitar a couple days ago, so I have yet to do anything with it.
The Les Paul guitars had a nice big 90 day Target return/exchange policy, but the World Tour guitar was purchased at Gamestop. :(

I bought mine from GameStop... can you not return it to them?

You can, but they only have a pathetic 14 day return/exchange policy.
[EDIT]
Actually...
It looks like their policy is 30 days now.
Unfortunately though the guitar I am having issues with now is a couple months old, so either way...

open it up, slide some paper between the switch contact and the plastic, moving it just a hair closer. fixed my issue with a GH3 les paul and the rockband guitar.

my gh world tour guitar did exactly that when i first bought it. strumming up was fine, strumming down only worked when i pressed it really hard. also my neck slider wasn't working very well either. i sent it back under warranty and got a new one. the strumming feels different in this one...like they used a different kind of switch or something.
