Title: 8 way / 4 way control question
Post by: Terry Han on March 04, 2002, 04:12:37 am
Ok, this is probably a stupid question, but I'm new to all this stuff:
I'm looking to use the Hagstrom KE72 for my project, but I need to know how many inputs an 8-way
joystick would use.
I'm assuming it's four, since MAME only has up, down, left and right as definable keys, but can someone confirm it for me?

Thanks very much.

The 8 way joystick does have 4 microswitches.  Left, Right, Up, and Down.  When the stick is moved to the diagonal two switches are pushed at the same time.

A 4 way joystick is designed so that it is not possible to activiate more than 1 switch at a time.

For both 4 way and 8 way joysticks you will need 4 inputs and a common ground
