So since I was a genius and killed my I-PAC I decided to try and still be productive and get some little things done like layout fixes and getting some videos recorded for my favorite games to replace the static snap shots.
The method I used was fraps which I then converted the outputted AVI to a WMV with windows movie maker, not the best option, but i had it installed and the mala wiki says WMV's are a supported format. plus i like that they are pretty small as far as file sizes, but still not too blurry.
The videos play fine on my computer when i click on the files, but MALA wont play them at all. I am at a complete loss as to why, I have them all inside a folder inside my mala directory, they are all named the same as their respective rom,I have mala pointed to that folder, I have " display videos" option ticked, I tryed removing the snaps all together to make sure they weren't playing under them, but nothing.I even tryed ticking and unticking the keep video aspect but the videos wont show.. no black box or anything, jsut a blank area like i have nothing assigned to that space or there are no videos to show...
Anyway, hopefully someone can help.. It doesn't seem like it should be this difficult. I ripped the videos with no sound, but I don't see how that can make a difference especially since there are options to mute it.
thanks in advance everyone

Have you got the latest XVID codec installed? That was the only codec MALA supported (although that may change with the next beta release!).
Beyond that, maybe try an avi of one of the files and see if it plays.
Wish I could be more helpful...

well i know i have xvid on my system, it might be worth seeing if i need a newer version, its something i still havent tried , thanks, I'll let you know if it works

There are many posts about this here and on the wiki
bsweet0us summed it up pretty well
xvid is the codec
and make sure you have no Divx codec on the system at all.
FYI the new engine is not quite as fusssy

ok... I searched and found a couple posts, nothing mentioning anything about only xvid sorry, I have mostly been referring to http://malafe.net/index.php?page=docshelp (http://malafe.net/index.php?page=docshelp) which says:
What are the supported video formats?
Avi (all installed codecs), mpg and wmv.
So thats why i was confused.ALL supported codecs and ONLY xvid are indeed very different.sorry for the bother.someone that has permissions to edit that other page might do so to cut down on frustrated, confused people like myself ,and for people in the know not having to answer more questions like this

Yep.
Just XVID at the moment. :P The current video engine works ok with thge right codec and videos. The downside is it not so stabele
But this new video video engine (I am spending all my spare time inserting into mala "Sorry family" :'( ) is a lot less fussy about codecs and video types.
Check out the specs for the new one ( Hope for the future)

There are lot of features in that list I could impliment into Mala down the track ;D
