so, i'm not finished with my marquee yet.
but i think i could use some feedback for how far it is.
anyone got some suggestions?
i need some ideas for what to do up top.

Well, for one .. it's too busy. The tiny characters get lost in the giant mame logo. The other thing .. too generic-looking. You might want to shrink down the mame logo, and focus more on the collection of game characters.

well, i totally get the busy thing.
i was thinking of taking the small sprites out in favor of fewer, bigger ones.
but what do you mean "generic-looking"?
--edit--
also, i was thinking about scrapping the sprite idea.
replacing it with a very simple color scheme
not just one color, but remove things like shading, like in the pic

It's kinda fun in a "Where's Waldo" sort of way. :) Might be even more fun to make it busier. Depends on what you're going for.
I'm not a fan of the Pac-Man ghosts replacing the letter "A", though.

I'd scrap the MAME logo idea. That's what is meant by "generic" - there are so many cool things you can do for a design that don't have to be character driven or even arcade related but would look great. IMO, the best cab designs are the ones that look like they were custom built with a theme in mind from the start that is woven through the CP, the side art, the marquee and front end. Check out ARTIFACT or Deep 6 or Gamecreature or even Mission Control for some ideas on what I'm talking about...

I'd second Javeryh's comment.
Try and zero in on a particular theme or element you really like, then play that up. To me, that's when the artwork starts to get interesting.
Where's the cab going, a gameroom?, the Living Room?, is there a pool table, bar, etc.
Maybe you already have some art you could tie into, or specific colors in the carpet, walls, etc?
If you can get a specific theme in mind, do a google images search for those keywords. That'll result in all kinds of ideas! I spent hours digging through the results of "steampunk gears"
