Title: Need help finding schimatics and manuals for Kortek KTA-915
Post by: atomikbohm on March 26, 2009, 12:31:36 am
Can anyone tell me how I would go about finding a manual and schimatics for a Kortek KTA-915 (aka T & E KTA-915 and Sharp Image SI 319 according to Jomac)

I'm getting really tired of google giving me everything that has KTA in it.

Thanks

Arcarc is your friend:

Alright, thanks to Ken I was able to find the Sharp Image SI 319 schimatic.  This is great news as this weekend I acquired a Kortek KTA-915 that the previous owner claimed was blowing fuses as soon as it was powered up.

Now the chassis and neck board came detached from the CTR so I thought I would take a look at what I could find before hooking it up, blowing another fuse and then having to discharge the tube.

My 1st observation is that the schimatic ( http://arcarc.xmission.com/PDF_Monitors/Sharp%20Image%20SI-319S%2019in.pdf (http://arcarc.xmission.com/PDF_Monitors/Sharp%20Image%20SI-319S%2019in.pdf)) shows the fuse that has been blowing is right after the AC Input and is rated at 250v 4A.  Now I'll be the first to acknowledge that I'm a total newb but, if US current is 120v and this is the first component in the circuit path shouldn't it be 120v?  Is this an error in the schimatic?  Could this monitor be geared for European power standards (i.e. 220v)?  Or the most likely, am I too much of a newb?

The blown fuse was rated at 4a 125v.  Assuming the schimatic is correct I would replace the fuse with the 4a 250v and then hook it back up and hope the problem is solved.  I just want to make sure I not putting an over rated fuse in a circuit that can't handle it and turning my new monitor into somthing that I can toast marshmallows over.

Thanks in advance

a fuse is an intentional weak link....
it must open at a specific current level and NOT pass current from arc (flash)over up to a specific applied voltage.

to maintain safety, it is best to replace fuses with the same type/rating as designed  :soapbox:

Any suggestions as to where I should look next?  :dunno

That is the maximum voltage the fuse was designed for.

If yours is the 5mm (diameter) by 20mm long type then get Radio Shack # 270-1055 (4a @ 125volt)

According to the underside of my pcb 4a 125v.  Guess i could have looked there before starting this  :-[

... and yes the fuse mesaures 5mm x 20mm.

Looks like I had better start a list of things I need from radio shack.

The arcarc schimatic pdf included a trouble shooting guide that directs me to check a couple of components if monitor has "No Power".  Does blowing fuses = No power?  If not any idea where I should go from here?

Yes.

Does the troubleshooting guide have a block for blowing the fuse?

And typically that means there is a problem on the chassis itself.

The headings on the trouble shooting guide are:

Trouble in Horizontal or vertical Sync
No High Voltage
No Power

Any ideas on how I go about isolating the problem on the chassis?  This is my 1st arcade monitor and of course it doesn't work.  :badmood:

So should I pursue the "No Power" trouble shooting guide or are there other components I should check first?

Thanks again for any advise.
