Slowly slowly I am making progress
OK I have a Jpac installed and I am trialling an Ati Radeon X600 using soft15Khz
I get the split screen on boot but I still get the split screen once the pc is running. I have both the 15 and 31hz jumpers on the Jpac,. The monitor is set for 15hz and the res right now at 300 x 240 using quickres to make it easier to read
1. How do I tell if I am getting 15hz? Both sync lights are on on the Jpac
2. Any clues as to why the still split screen?
3. The monitor is old now and the colours seem to be predominantly blue and not that bright. Is this a sign of a dying tube or chassis?

Sounds like the JPAC. Not to say there's anything wrong with it, but I've found there's a kind of curve in understanding the jumper part of it. Also, different versions (as in, when they were released) have different features, for example the old one I have won't allow above VGA at all, whereas newer versions can handle at least up to XGA. Try taking off the 31Khz jumper and see what it shows.

If that isn't the issue, something else that came to mind is that your video card might possibly be forcing what are called 'high-refresh' video modes, which are at 31khz.

set your deaktop to 640X480
make sure the monitor is being fed composite sync to the H input only and leave V open for the monitors input.
these monitors do require a video amp for best results but I am not sure if the J-pac has one built in it or not.
use the quik res tool software to set your deaktop res only.
