Title: cant seem to figure this out

i have been lurking on this forum for a week or 2 now reading about mala, and the potentials it has are really exciting ,except i cant seem to make a layout the way i want.
what I am trying to do is have a menu for my base screen that lets me select a gamelist to load, and depending on the gamelist,a different theme will load,however i cant seem to figure out how to make a tree from malatree and a new layout to play together. when i enable tree in options and point it towards the tree i made, it just loads a grey screen.

i have actually read through that wiki already with no mention of this problem,joining to have to ask for help was pretty much a last resort

I'm more or less in the same situation. The rest of the program is so easy and intuitive, but malatree seems to be for inteligent people, because it's impossible for me to understand how it works.

Like I already said I have been playing around with MALA for a bit ,and it seems like once its working it will be a really nice setup, its  frustrating  that i can't seem to figure this stumbling block out.
