Title: Problem with MAME...
Post by: Si the Sigh on March 24, 2009, 07:54:05 am
...Hi, it's probably something really simple to sort out, but I can't work this out.

All games in MAME are being viewed vertically, but I'd like them to be horizontal so I can play them without having to turn my monitor on it's side! How do I set the view as horizontal as standard?

Thanks in advance, and also I hope this is the rigjht forum to post in.

Not for sure ( Im at work away from my cab.....2. Not sure what version Mame you have ) Hit Tab and go to your video options as you have the game up and running( should be an option to rotate)...Also check your Default options on MAME

Thanks for the quick reply. When I hit Tab, there is no option for rotation? Or if there is, I can't see it? I think it's probably my default options, but I've messed around with the settings and I can't seem to get anything playing horizontally.

I need coffee...from what you are saying....its more than likely your default options...On the help tab...there should be a "perfered settings" list...

I'm at work so my memory may be a little fuzzy but I think you need to go into the mame cfg file and under ror or rol you need to change the 0 to a 1.  Or you could do it on a game by game basis in the game/rom cfg file and type out "mspacman -rol" or whatever game you are trying to rotate.  Or, you could hit ctl+alt+an arrow key to rotate your entire display depending on whether or not your video card supports this feature.

That will only do it per game. He'll need to adjust it in the INI.

By any chance are you using intel onboard graphics?  If it is all games (horizontal and vertical) that are being rotated 90 degrees then the posts above are the right path, but if just the vertical games are being turned 90 degrees from vertical then it may be autorotate for the intel graphics is messing you up.  I ran into the same situation when I updated my system, it took me awhile to find the post from 2 years ago that explained the issue with intel onboard graphics.  Once I disabled 'autorotate' in the video driver graphics setting everything worked fine.

Here's where I found the info originally
