Title: WTB - Atari Tempest Cardboard Monitor Bezel
Post by: galaga69 on March 23, 2009, 06:31:37 am
Hi guys,

Does anybody have a cardboard monitor bezel for a Tempest upright cab they'd be willing to sell? Thanks in advance.  :)

Hi guys,

I'm still searching for a Tempest black cardboard monitor bezel. I believe this is the same smaller form-factor bezel that Atari used for Space Duel, and maybe a few others as well. Any leads would be appreciated!

Thanks,

dumb question here, but couldn't you just use any piece of black cardboard or posterboard?

My buddy and I "constructed" a cardboard bezel for his Atari Millipede upright last year, and it was a *lot* of work. Even using a template as a guide, it's more difficult than it seems. Typically these bezels curve in more than one plane simultaneously, and getting the thing to look and fit right was a challenge.  :P

Hence, my search for a Tempest bezel.

It does appear that Atari made at least three sizes bezels for their upright games (specifically, the ones didn't have artwork on them, e.g. Asteroids), because the bezels for Centipede, Millipede and Tempest are all different sizes. Tempest appears to use the smallest bezel of the lot.

Thanks,

I thought the tempest glass was smoked and there wasn't a bezel like there was for Centipede. Like this:

No, it has a cardboard bezel.

Weird though.  I used a Tempest bezel in my Millipede and it seems to be the proper size.  IIRC anyways, it is in storage now. :(
