Title: I Fixed that Rowe Ami R-88
Post by: fredster on March 22, 2009, 09:04:09 am
I want to thank Ken Layton, Ami-man, and Mr D for helping me fix my Rowe Ami R-88.

The Juke came from an auction.  When I first plugged it in, I could just hear the record basket rotate.  I couldn't get in it without damaging it because  it didn't have a key.  I thought it just couldn't find any records becasue it was empty?

The good folks on this forum helped me find a vendor for the key, and a manual for it.

Once I got inside the machine it was obvious that the record basket was just continuosly running.  It was full of records.  The trouble shooting manual brought me to the mech control board.  Ken sent me the schematics so I could figure it out, that was key.

A mech board came up on ebay and I got it.  I put it in and the record basket stopped turning and it all worked, except the Turntable motor wouldn't run.  So I thought the motor was bad.  Ami Man suggested that it wasn't that, that the motors hardly ever gave out.  So I probed the voltages, and I was getting 5V ac where I should have gotten 28 V.

I found a tap for 28V Ac off the board and plugged it directly into the TT Motor, and it worked! At that point I went back to the "new" ebay "untested" Mech board I bought and replaced the triac and the transistor in line for the TT motor and SHE WORKED!

It played all night and ate dollars and quarters at the proper settings!  Plus there was some old time Rock and Roll on it.

Thank you all!

It's justwhat I call general equipment at work.

I appreciate all the help.

And I'll get some actual pictures of my "UNIT" up since you all wanna see it  ;)

In the meantime, it's the same kind of juke as seen in the back of the "Crab Shack" on the TV show "My Name is Earl".  See the below stock pic of one, mine looks just like it.
