Title: Werid Galaga cocktail on rollers?
Post by: garnerb350 on March 19, 2009, 02:11:58 pm
At the place I work at, I found this in the Recreation Department...No body uses it except for stacking mess on it....Its a Galaga cocktail...but its werid looking...Ive never seen this...You know how most cocktails sit on the floor....This one has two table legs with rollers on it... Its been modded for free play ( pushbutton for credits) and I plugged it up and it runs....perfectly...( the monitor from what I can tell is still in good condition, i.e no burn out etc) The speakers are still running...in fact when I found it they place a paper plate over the speaker grill to lower the volume... The control panel overlays are a tab bit worn, but everything is tip top condition...Basiclly all I can tell is that it needs a good cleaning and TLC...Can anyone tell me more about this model/design....What about price range? I might can be able to get it and I would love to try and restore it...

Likely a custom hack by some half-arsed conversion company, or you're referring to the 'UK-style' cocktail design - like this but with wheels?

I'll try to see if I can grab a camera....Depends on how the day is...( sorry Frizzle)

Turn.....Yeap the thing has rollers....

The guy who is in charge of the recreation Department ( when he started) has all this stuff left to him and he cant even find the paperwork saying that they own it...he wants to get rid of it...and he knows about me doing my first cab...I think he will let me take it off his hands....

I drew up a quick rendition of it....I hope this helps....

All my life I have NEVER seen a model like this...I'm even starting to think it is a custom job...
But I do have to warn that I dont know much about the late model arcades....

That's exactly as I showed in that picture on my last post, but with a sticky-out cp. It was commonly found in British arcades when I was a kid - in fact I don't ever remember seeing an 'end-to-end' cocktail in our arcades, but then we never really got the dedicated cabinets for uprights either....

If you're getting it for free then either way snap it up!

Depending on condition and what it's running, those cabs go for between £100-£400 (that's about $200-800 or about 120 - 480 Euros). A JAMMA example with a sngle game PCB in the condition that one in the pic is in would be about £150 - £200, as a guide. Double that if it has been properly converted to MAME and is in better condition.

Dunno how the americans would take to it, but I say if you were to re-skin it with black fablon or laminate, MAME it and give it a bit of a clean you could turn a decent wedge on ebay for it.

They weren't uncommon here in North America (Space Invaders, Frogger and Donkey Kong stick out in my mind). Atari used similarly-styled tables for Asteroids and Centipede.

Personally, I don't like them because of the bitty 13" monitors, but I'm also not a huge fan of the Midway-style cocktail either.

/me prefers Williams cocktails

Thanks Turn....

I guess right now my worries are space issues...( finding a place to store this beauty) and also trying to get over the intimidation of trying to restore it...

Me and my wife are expecting another child and we are in the process of buying a new house and my wife already asked me what are we going to do with "Frankenstein" ( my mame cab)..." We might not have room to keep it"...

I told her " Sell the kid on the black market!"

i feel your pain.  last summer we bought a house, and around Christmas had our second child.  when we moved, i lost my basement gameroom. since the new basement is just not suitable for finishing.  i got rid of two of my cabinets, but kept one that is in our family room.

hold your ground...dont get rid of your cabinet...tell her it is for the children.  I named my cabinet ZakMan after my oldest son, Zak...that way she couldnt make me get rid of it. :)
