Title: Best resolution for 19" Arcade monitor and MALA plus Soft 15. 640 x 480??

Ok, I just got MAME running in my cabinet. I stuck it in a Ms. Pac-Man cabinet using a JAMMA adapter and a J-PAC.

I am using SOFT15 plus MALA 1.04. The games look pretty good. They seem a little fuzzy to me compared to my 60 in 1. I have my desktop resolution set to 640 x 480 16 bit color. Is this the best resolution? The front end text is not very sharp either. Normal? I tried 640 x 288 and the games were all smooshed and I couldn't stretch them out far enough using the controls on the WG monitor. Is 640 x 480 the right resolution for the desktop? Is there some setting in MAME that I am overlooking to to make the games look better? Almost like a slight amount of anti-aliasing is on the games.

Any ideas?

My bazooka res is 640x240 It seems the best to me, but I would just boot the games in different resses the closest to what they were built for and go from there. Ultimarc does have their resolution tool that will batch set the resolutions in mame and you can filter out the ones you do not like.

The games for the most part look good. They just don't seem as sharp. If I change to 640 x 240 isn't everything all smooshed? How does that work?

My default resolution that I like is 640x240. Good to hear you figured it out, because now I really don't feel like explaining it.

I mostly figured it out. I am still running 640 x 480 for the front end but used ARCADERes generate ini files for each game. It looks REALLY good. But some games are too big or too small on the monitor and some look great and amazing. I guess I should use 640x240 fixed instead and then let MAME stretch the games? Is that the best way?

I am not sure how to filter out the bad resolutions. Can you explain?
