Title: Home Electricians - Question for You
Post by: kenzo42 on March 12, 2009, 02:08:44 am
I need to ground an Japanese arcade cabinet however, there is no ground prong on the plug (only 2 prong plug).

There is however a ground bolt connecting noise filter, earth ground on the harness, and coin mechanism that should be grounded.

1) Can I just connect the ground bolt (via wire) to the power outlet screw? It says explicitly on the power outlet to not use the bolt as a ground. My outlets are 3 prong type.

2) What's the worse if I just don't connect any grounds?

the japanese earth their cabs via that bolt and daisy chain the earth to the cabs, you can put an earth wire straight to that bolt
better still would be to change the mains lead to a standard one and find an earth point inside the cab
not having an earth will give certain people a half mains electric shock if they touch the cab and an earthed item at the same time
