Hey all,
I'm an artist based in Arizona. I'm working on a Video installation which brings me here because i'm not finding much info on google.
I Want to temporarily convert my Neo Geo into a TV in the cab for video art i'm presenting.
It's an RCA tube by Wells Gardener model 25K7193.
I need to attach a dvd player to it. Composite would be best or s-video.
Any suggestions would be great on converters and were to find them.

Scroll down to Product # A-22. That will do what you want.
-
i need it the other way around, i need to display a dvd video on my neo geo screen.
unless that one goes both ways, which i don't think it does.
-
Is NTSC video a requirement of your exhibit? Cause it would look much nicer through a computer and RGB.
-
no requirement. i would like it to look a little messed up, but what ever is easiest and cost effective. I'm a starving artist. :P
-
What kind of video card does your computer have in it? You might be able to get away with soft 15khz and a vga breakout cable.
-
i have an Imac, it has Mini DisplayPort output port with support for DVI, VGA, and dual-link DVI via adapter4.
what is the break out cable?

hmmmm if i remember correctly there is a way that you can import custom modelines into macs. It has been quite a few years since I have used em, but maybe go give their thread a holler to see if they know of a way to do the same on mac. There is also the linux option, as you can drop the modelines strait into a txt file to be read by the os.
-
i would prefer it to be a dvd player rather then my comp. i have a total of 5 video installations at this show, and i can't use a computer for all of them. the most important installation needs my comp as a video feed switcher cause it pulls video from a file, a security camera, and a movie
so for the arcade unit, i would prefer it to be able to connect to a dvd player.

could this work?

it has a BNC connector. could i get a BNC to composite cable and hook up a dvd player to it?
-
BNC is RGB, just a different interface than VGA. Still, I recommend finding a TV on CL or Freecycle.

So it would work. there is a reason for this, a statement to the art piece.

bit pricey but this is the sort of thing

I'm going to try my first option, if that doesn't work, i'll give the other one a try.

This appears to be one of the WG parts referenced earlier. The BNC input is for composite video, not RGB. Should do exactly what you need (though it'll look kinda awful).
About the only reason I can think of to use a DVD player for this instead of a PC is that most PC DVD players don't support native video output, while standalone DVD players do. However, that's only really applicable to interlaced DVDs. DVD movies are usually progressive at 24*1000/1001 FPS, and you can't feasibly display that directly on a CRT (it would flicker terribly on a conventional tube if the monitor were even capable).

I hear that. as an artist, you have to make due with what you have. (often it's because of money.)
i only have so much access to computers. and with what i have available it's my best option.
I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

See if you can get a PS2 - those will do RGB out if modded with a chip when playing dvd - you would need a scart cable however which is hard to find in the states, there may be a mod to get RGB out of a component cable - I think I saw something to do that a while back.
You may still need a sync seperator to get stable syncs off the composite video out - when I tried connecting a scart satillite player straight to an old arcade monitor, the composite sync worked well enough with careful placement of the vhold control, and if you want it to look messed up the odd roll of the picture may be something you are happy to have in any case.
Plus once you are done with it, you have a games console in the cab to play games on during the after the show event ;)

Good suggestion man!
