I actually found an Atari 2600 styled controller that is a USB windows HID device.
I'm trying to get StellaX working but it's kind of cryptic to me. Anyone know anything about StellaX and a windows joystick?
How dope is that... playing emu 2600 on an atari styled joystick...

Can you give more info on this stick you found? Price, where to buy, what it looks like(picture), etc.
-
i dunno about stella x but i know stella supports sticks no prob

I just took some empty serial ports(db9 male) from a dead pc. These are the kind that have a short "tail" that plugs into the mobo. Foudn the pinout for atari joysticks and extended the serial ports to my Ipac. Plug in any 9pin atari joystick and it works
I think for paddles I'll try a joystick port hack, but that'll be a little bit down the road

Are there any good games on the 2600? I had one when I was a child and most of them were spectacularly awful.
There were a couple of ones that were kind of playable but they were usually just ports of games that were much better elsewhere.

omg how can you say that!
frogger
river raid
chopper command
title match pro wrestling
ummm cops and robbers aka maze craze

would regular Stella (dos) support a USB joystick that uses windows drivers?
also, what 2600 emulators work the best. I hear that Stella is good but there are few others too...

check it out for yourself.
It reads as a HID joystick with one button #2...
I took it apart, it's got the old school pressure plates just like the original but it feels like it's about 4X stiffer and 4X more durable.
-
have you tried to see if it works in other emulators or games?
MAME? etc?
does it work as a regular joystick in other games? what OS are you using?
-
I run both Win98 and XP in different machines.
I mainly want to get this thing working in 2600 emulators because of it's nostalgia factor.
It does work in MAME ... quite simple beause of good joystick support.
I guess I'm just fumbling in StellaX as the main problem. Not understanding the interface etc..
I'm also unsure of the roms that I've found.
-
well, you are probably having an emu problem then... i think.
i am glad you brought this joystick to our attention though...i was going to hack an original atari stick to PC, but i rather just buy this one if it works.
Try some other emulators...ones that let you configure the stick hopefully.
One that I know of that is configurable is PCAEWin.

They presently do not sell it straight out.
How much do you guys think it's fair to sell this joystick at?
I think that my other problem is that I'm not able to find any .bin roms... only some other format so I don't know how to test the emulators
-
you can get the correct files at www.atariage.com
;)

got it working. Do you guys think a joystick like this is worth $10?
