Hey Gang,

Where's mahjong titles on everyone's lists? ;)
-
1. Mappy (whimsical and fun. great music.)
2. Robotron (needs no explanation)
3. Astro Blaster (Fighter pilots needed in sector wars!)
4. Joust (needs no explanation)
5. Carnival (simple, yet addictive)
(And my best friend's favorite game is Seicross. :P)
-
1. Robotron
2. Bomb Jack
3. Vandyke
4. Shinobi
5. Twin Hawk
If I had a faster PC and broadband there would be more modern games in there like Garou: Mark of Wolves and Mars Matrix in there. In the mean time my Dreamcast suffices.
-
as the classics are yet given I just want to focus on 2 games
qix: I spend so much money in this one, If I have ONE game to get on a desert island I'll chose this one ;)
puzloop: I just discover using random playing
-
If I had to chose one and only one I'd go for Blacktiger. Once I had a terrible nightmare: Capcom makes a remake of this videogame in 3D and releases it in Playstation 2, also with some elements of adventure and rpg. o_O Could it be worse? I doubt it.
-
Think Zen games
1) Robotron
2) Timepilot
Games that you can do better if you zone out and let the force take you... really! Try thinking in robotron instead of just letting it happen!
Games with the kids...
3) 19xx
Games for when the kids go to sleep
4) I hate to say it... I like those adult quix games. They add some new strats to old quix. I can't play the original anymore.
Then I like a SF game here and there... but thats been in zinc recently
-
Where's mahjong titles on everyone's lists? ;)
Just out of curosity, does anybody even play the Mahjong games?? There's so many of those dang games, but I never even play them myself. But hey if I got rid of them, I wouldn't have a complete set! hahaha
Oh yeah lately my favorites have been....
Defender, pop and something(Ballon game), Mario Bros, Area51 with a trackball!
-

Pac-Man Plus
Mr. Do
Do! Run Run

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo (2 players is AMAZING!)
Of all of these I've definitely logged the most hours into Puzzle Fighter. By far the best puzzle game ever invented. The stategy involved in winning a 2-player game is so much deeper than every other puzzle game I've played. Wow.

Super Puzzle Fighter- I agree with Pyronious, this needs more strategy than any other puzzle game i've seen. That's why it's so great.
Marble Madness- Though i've only ever got to the last level once.
Galaga- Can't be beat for addictivness.
Reactor- Only found this recently. Really good trackball game.
And yes the adult qix style games. They're surprisingly fun. Even the ones with not much nudity.
-
In PARTICULAR order!!
1) Robotron ... because its addicting and hard.
2) Stargate ... because it's hard and hard.
3) BombJack ... because it's addicting and addicting.

Wow... so someone from your generation actually finds classic games entertaining?! I thought that with the PS2 and XBOX being the norm nowadays, classic games would seem like a joke to the younger generations.
I guess there is still hope, and that I will be able to enjoy some time with my (yet to be born) child. LOL!
-
That's the best thing about being relatively young (22 here.) I can get MAME to play some of the older stuff that's particularly fun (most of the classics, except for the EXTREMELY boring pattern-games like Pac-Man.) Then, when I buy actual standups for games that I played when I was a little kid, they're all worthless. It's nice to have all of your favorite games be sitting in that sweet spot between being a classic and being an earner. I bought a cabal recently at auction, and not a single person cared to bid against me! :)
-
This thread rules. I totally forgot about Juno First! I used to play it all the time. I down loaded it last night and played for ages, it rocks. I also forgot about Bombjack lol.
Someone should start a top 10 thread.

That's where you're wrong my friend :)
I myself am only 17, and i'm building a Mame cabinet just to play all those classics :)
Whilst my arcade experiences have been very little (only later on in the piece.) I still love the classics, and waste away lots of money in them, regardless of age.
I just about love any game, from Pacman to the latest Street Fighter incarnation... and I am one of the "modern gamers" with a Xbox and a beefy PC.
-
How on earth can you guys forget RASTAN and Tron!!
In no order
Rastan
Tron
DOT
Assault
Star Trek
and many many others ;D

Yeah, I am 25 and my childhood favorites are also mostly worthless. I have bought quite a few of them, but eventually sold them all. Conversion games just don't have the WOW factor that dedicated games do. Like for example I kept my Kangaroo machine, and sold multipe Final Fights, Streetfighter 2s, and other beat em ups because my Kangaroo machine looks like it just came out of the box, while fun conversion stuff like Street Fighter and final fight are usually pretty beat down. Even my nicest conversion game ever (A Street Fighter 2 Champion edition in a Centipede cabinet), still got on my nerves.
Even my Mame machines are kept as stock as possible (and two of them are dedicated cabinets, albeit for very obscure titles that no one wants, Amazing Maze and King & Balloon).

Would be interesting to have a pole for BYOAC's age ranges...just for fun. I just turned 20 myself. I grew up with a Nintendo (NES) and loved the megaman series, mario series, battles toads, ninja gaiden series, bubble bobble (I played this one to death), and the original zelda...Purhaps my love for arcade games came from playing these 8-bit games. I love the classics just as much as my Gamecube titles...probably more so. Just something about them appeals to me.
For the best (and worst) games in MAME, check this out:
http://www.mameworld.net/c0pil0t/
They even have Mame32 Folders for downoad that organize those favorites.
My top games in no particular order:
-Marvel vs. Capcom (My fav fighter...spidy and megaman all the way)
-Mr. Do! (this is one of my favorites of all time now...funny, I only learned of its existance about 1-2 years ago from eightbit)
-Pac-man (what can I say, probably the first arcade game I ever heard of)
-Tempest (After recently playing this game on a dedicated machine for the first time, I really want a great spinner...I have an Arkanoid currently)
-Quantum (if you haven't tried this game, I highly suggest it..simple trackball game, but very addicting and fun)
-Cameltry (another great trackball game, a ball goes through a maze, but you move the background)
-Police trainer (Put that act labs gun to work)
-Time Pilot (GREAT game...a must play)
-Bubbles (unique concept...who knew cleaning a sink would be so much fun?!)
-Discs of Tron (Great control setup)
-Time Pilot '84 (I LOVE this game. Only game I actually owned besides the WWF Wrestfest board from my cab...)
I know I'm forgetting something I really like, but that's a big enough list for now! :D
-
Pinball action --> Forgotten 1984 classic!
