I am new to the mp3 scene, but would like to set up a MAME jukebox for a MAME cabinet. I tried doing a search for some mp3s, but find numerous site--some free and some charge. Just wondering if there are any good sites or ways to collect a varied collection of mp3s that would work well for a MAME jukebox? Are the pay sites the only way to collect good mp3s at this point or are some free sites still available? And if pay is the only way, which are the cheapest and most reliable. I know that for roms there are mame burners that provide complete sets--is there something similiar for mp3's.
Thanks.

Or the legal way, using apple's new service :)

www.mp3.com <- best free and legal service for MP3s out there.
Are there any artists in particular you're interested in? If so, try their websites, many bands have some of their songs or special mixes on their site for free download.
Of course, you can also rip MP3s from CDs you own with software like Nero Burning Rom or Music Match Jukebox fairly easily.
Or the legal way, using apple's new service
It's not in MP3 format, and I'm not sure you can even use it with PC's.

By the end of the year you will be able to play them on PCs.
This is a great ripping program

Rip your own from CDs you already have with CDEx or download all you want from Usenet.

I would suggest using Kazaa.
I prefer the Kazaa Lite version, which has no extra programs bundled or spyware.

Also, you could get software to convert your cd's to MP3 for you. I think REAL Player and Windows Media Player can do this.

Winamp 2.0 has a free output plugin for mp3 as well.
Winamp 3.0 does not.

I use Apples i-Tunes alot, great selection and a reasonable price.
The downloaded files are .m4a
These are encrypted, and I can't find a direct conversion tool to make them mp3's. But the i-tunes software will burn a regular audio CD from a playlist - so I do that then rip the CD to mp3. Thats about the only easy way I have found to get downloads from my powerbook to my PC based jukebox. (70Gb of mp3's, 8,000 tracks :) )
I use Music Match Jukebox for the front end and database.
Oh, and at the moment you need to have a Mac to access Apples i-tunes.
