Just curious. This cpu has been making the rounds and the reviews have been raving about it.
Specifically I'm wondering how it runs the unplayable games like mk4 (god awful game by the way).
-
Don't bother. I get no sound stutters and perfect play with a e8400 w/ 2gb ram clocked at 3.8hgz running xp64. You can build out an awesome e8400 rig for half the price.
-
Also an option for those with a computer that cant quite cut it. MK Gold seems to run better on a Dreamcast Emu. But yeah the game sucks lol so why bother.
:dunno

Check out the numbers of a 940 i7 at mameworld.info (http://www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=172849&page=0&view=expanded&sb=5&o=&fpart=1&vc=1)
Looks like mame doesn't benefit as much as some (most?) other applications & benchmarks (but more than a couple), with the i7. For now, the core 2TM dual/quad cpu is the best bang for reasonable bucks.

Sorry to revive a nearly dead thread, but I'm about to do some formal benchmarking on the i7 2600k soon, and I thought this would be the best place to put the info, since it's relevant.
First blush reports show MK4 running for 180 seconds at an average of 89% with the chip clocked to 4.5ghz.
I'm putting the finishing touches on my test rig and I'm hoping to get 5.1ghz stable on air cooling. Then I'll start my benchmark tests.

I assume you plan to use a 64 bit version of MAME. Also, indicate the speed of RAM you are using.

I had thought about a 64bit version of MAME, but since I doubt I will be able to find 64bit XP drivers for some of my components (video card, chipset) I will likely stay with 32bit for my testing.
I will dropping this mobo into my mame cab with a completely hidden windows environment shelled to Mala, and AFAIK XP is the only way to go for that, unless someone has figured out a good way to achieve the same result with win7. In that case I'll happily start benchmarking in the Win7 64bit environment with a 64bit build of MAME. But since it doesn't suit my needs, I'll be benching 32bit.
I'll see if I can get 64bit XP Pro playing happy on a spare hard drive I have. If I can, then I'll image the drive and move it over to the Solid State drive I'm using in my test rig.
My specs:
- Mobo: Asus P8P67M-Pro v3 (bios version 1002)
- Power Supply: OCZ 500MXSP modular 500 watt
- CPU: Intel Core i7 2600K
- Cooler: Coolermaster Hyper 212+ with dual push/pull 120mm fan setup and AS5 grease
- RAM: 2 sticks of GSkill Ripjaw DDR3 at 1600mhz (9-9-9-24)
- OS Drive: currently a 2.5" Seagate 160GB 7500rpm laptop SATA drive, using 3mb/s SATA II bus, but soon to be a OCZ Vertex 3 SATA III 120GB SSD, running at 6gb/s
- OS: XP SP3 32bit
- Video: MSI NX 8500GT with 256mb NVIDIA GPU

XP64 drivers are listed here. nVidia card will be fine too.
Seriously, don't run Mame32 on an i7 :( that's just silly.

I've benched a few games, at this thread:
