Title: Where to find 12 pin connector for nba jam
Post by: Squideo on March 01, 2009, 09:19:25 pm
I recently got an nba jam cab from an auction. It looks like it works fine but the control board is not connected to the board. There are connectors on the control panel and connectors in the arcade machine but both are female. There is a 12 pin connector that connects the coin box to the board which is what I need to be able to connect the control board to the machine. There are pics posted below of the connector on the control board and the 12 pin connector that I am talking about (sorry about the fuzzy pics those are the best I could get). There are pins on both side to be able to connect two plugs. I have been looking for something similar but have been unable to find it. Can anyone give me a link where I can get something like that ? Thanks in advance for any information.

I took a better picture of two female plugs with the connector (that has pins on both side) connecting them. Some of the plugs are 11 pin and some are 12 pin. Any help would be appreciated. I have been continuing try to find something but I have been unable to do so. Thanks again.

your wording gave me a headache.

All you need to play NBA Jam is it plugged into the JAMMA harness.

There is also a ribbon and cable for the sound board.

There are 2 other connectors, for players 3 and 4.

Take better pictures. What kind of cabinet is this going into? do other JAMMA games work?

Midway uses those male/male things within their wiring harness to allow the control panel to be disconnected from the JAMMA wiring up at the control panel area.  The actual part Midway uses is made by Panduit, and I don't know where to buy it in the USA in small quantity, but you can just use a pin strip with long pins on both sides if you want.

Try Digikey S1232E-36-ND (http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=S1232E-36-ND) (long, tin), S1022E-36-ND (http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=S1022E-36-ND) (shorter, tin), S1231E-36-ND (http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=S1231E-36-ND) (long, one side gold plated) or S1021E-36-ND (http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=S1021E-36-ND) (shorter, one side gold plated).

Those are each 36 position headers, but they easily break-away (snap) to whatever smaller length you desire, and you can make multiple pieces out of each one if you need more than one connection.  If your connectors have pins missing to form a keyway (Midway normally did this), just cut the necessary pin out with some wire cutters or flush cutters.

i have used these before instead of a diconnect just make one long harness that plugs directly into the PCB. I think the only place that sells those actual connectors is bobroberts, who is great but does not take paypal so it's a pain in the rear to pay him.
