I am sure this has been discussed, but I can't find it after many searches. For sound problems related to the PC hardware not being up to snuff, what is the normal recomended first strike at upgrading to fix it? I have a 500mhz P3 with 512mg Ram and a Creative Labs PCI 128D sound card - and certain games, like Shuffle Shot, will run at about 35 FPS which is bearable - but the sound echoes (everything is repeated twice). This sound issue happens with a few of the more hardware intensive games. I plan on getting a much better PC in 6 months or so, but for now I'm wondering if there is a quick fix for this.
To remedy a problem like this would the first upgrade option be a new sound card or more RAM (or nothing if this is normally stricly a processor issue)?
Thanks

Are you able to use DOS? I have the same problem in Windows, but in DOS it's non-existent. Unfortunately, because of my choice of other emus, I can't use DOS :)

First, try increasing the sound latency (to "audio_latency 5" in mame.ini). Other thing is to try decreasing the samplerate (to "samplerate 22050").
CPU, CPU, CPU. WIth 512 megs, your memory is not the problem. A sound card upgrade, although possible, is very doubtful of doing anything.
