Title: Needing Info on MESS emulator for the noob
Post by: garnerb350 on February 27, 2009, 12:15:18 pm
Need some help on setting up the MESS emulator...I just recently got the atari roms and this noob is trying to figure it out...I did a search on Google, and either its blocked from where I am at or its a dead link....Didnt know if anyone can pass me a link or info on how to set it up...

I noticed that it looks simular to MAME...

another thing.... I guess the BIOS folder in MESS is the same as ROM folder in MAME? Am I right?

No the 'bios' folder is for various system bios's (the Atari2600 does not have a bios file I believe).  You put your roms under the 'software' directory in a folder named after the respective system.  So your atari 2600 roms would go under \mess\software\a2600.

Mess is great for a lot of systems, it also has the advantage of being somewhat user friendly if you are already familiar with Mame.

That said, I only use it for Atari 7200, and a few other systems, but its a nice fallback if you cant find a better emulator for your given system (like the 7200).
