Title: How levels in the original Gauntlet?

Me and my friend are trying to get to the end, we have past level 100. Anyone know how many levels there are? I tried to Google it but could not find the answer.  :-[

After a lot of beers and countless hours, my friend and I got to level 150-something before we realized that the levels were repeating... the only differences being that the levels would be flip-flopped and the colors would be different.  I don't think that there is an end to this game, although I could be wrong.  We probably would have noticed that the levels were repeating sooner, but like I said there was a lot of beer involved.   :cheers:

My friend and I used to do the same thing a Visitor Q but without the beer. In the arcades, we burned through a lot of quarters, soda and pop rocks in all night binges to try and get to the end. When I got an NES and the game cart, we blew an entire summer weekend, 48+ hours, zero sleep, with ass loads of soda, KitKats, Little Ceasers pizza, two tubes of BenGay (for the Nintenditis (http://www.diclib.com/cgi-bin/d1.cgi?l=en&base=amslang&page=showid&id=6704)) and chicken's blood (for the inevetible, "oh ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---, I bumped the NES," which, thankfully, never happened). We never did get to the end if there was one. I've seen people talk about Gauntlet ending at levels like 999 (arcade) or 500 (NES) but I've never confirmed it.

The only version of Gauntlet that I know of with a true ending was Gauntlet: The Third Encounter for the Atari Lynx.

Yeah I read about the NES version with 500 levels, did not know if that apllied to the arcade or not. I guess I did not know if there was some sorta kill screen or what have you in the arcade version.

I like the game and it would be fun to play to the end but is there a end?

Anyone Else  ???
