I have successfully made a .dat file of my Mame v1.06 using the mame -listxml >mame.xml and then datutil mame.xml. I can bring the .dat up in clrmampro v3.122c just fine. I then load the set of roms and files just fine. But when I drag a rom into the set, it doesn't split it into the necessary files in order for me to play it, clrmamepro just rebuilds it exactly the way it was before. I have every Split option ticked. What could I be doing wrong? I have tried all the "tutorials" and google searches that I could find, that's how I got this far, but it's just not doing what it is said to supposed to be doing. Thanks.
P.S. I dig the web site and forums, big help in getting my machine up and running.

I can't specifically answer your question but I wanted to see if you had looked at this tutorial?
http://www.cphsolutions.f2s.com/guides/cmprotutorial.htm
That may help you out. :dunno

Are there just some files of roms that won't rebuild to a given version of Mame? That tutorial was the best one I have seen, but I got the same result. Thanks anyway, this is just weird. If anyone has successfully rebuilt roms to Mame v1.06 from clrmamepro, let me know what you did.

You probably need the 'rollback' MAME roms. Older romsets have different versions of some of the roms and cannot be rebuilt from newer romsets, therefore you need a copy of the roms that have changed considerably - these are the 'rollback roms'.

That sounds right. I'll give it a try. I've seen 'rollback' roms before, just never knew what they stood for. Thanks.

Thats okay, glad I could help - I will say one thing... they aren't easy to acquire unfortunately! :'(
