All I see is a hottie... but no ROMies

Hmmm, Mameworld appears to be completely gone...
The domain mameworld.net has expired. If you owned this domain, please contact your domain registration service provider for further assistance. If you need help identifying your service provider, visit http://domainhelp.tucows.com.

It's not just these... last night (about 1.00am UK time) google went down! Plus I've had problems with MSN, hotmail, Emuasylum and a few high-profile sites too.... curious.
-
Yesterday I couldn't access mameworld, and today I'm getting the same page as Dazz.
-
I live in the uk and was on my Pc around 1 AM and I didn't notice any problems.
I can't remember what exactly I was doing though.
-
This is getting to be a regular occurrence. Didn't this happen a couple years ago? I live in fear of accidentally forgetting to renew one of my domains...

Yeah, Every Feb, or almost every, znet (the host of mameworld.net) forgets to renew the domain. Sometimes it's becuase mameworld.net doesn't remind them (or that's the excuse), but this time looks like Roc had already written znet before the expired. It'll be up, at sometime.

Record expires on 16-Feb-2009
Come on already! Renew!!!!

I recall a month or couple ago there was an incident, and it came out that the service just ---fouled up beyond all recognition--- up. They'd been paid up for a while. If accurate, probly more of the same. The forums are still there, though, which seems common.

I believe info.mameworld.net or wherever the forums are is hosted on another server and/or through another registrar.

You can still get to MAWS by doing the following:
Edit you "HOSTS" file in your windows system folder to point to their IP address. You will need to restart your browser after editing. (And if you are using Vista, you'll need to edit the file with Admin rights, not user rights)
Place the following line in your hosts file (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts)
216.144.214.105 www.mameworld.net

Nice it works back in BIZ!
-
Oh that explains so much - I was checking through my bookmarks and noticed a bunch from that site, all I kept getting was the "please register" pic with the blonde lady, so I deleted all my bookmarks to that site figuring it was another dead site.... gwahhh, now I'll have to try and remember what was so important there that I actually took the time to bookmark them... :dizzy:

It's an old school trick back during dialup days when ISPs (I forget who) used a crappy domain mirror. The trick is, you have to know the correct IP address and hope the server isn't on a dynamic one.
