Hey guys i recently switched from linux to windows in anticipation of street fighter 4. Anyway i noticed that i could no longer run mortal kombat 4. Back when i was using a 32 bit version of XP it worked just fine. Has anyone else had trouble running this game on a 64 bit version windows?

I can't run MK4 (or any versions of Blitz, have the chds) on Mame .129, Windows XP 32 bit. It runs fine on Vista. I never bothered to pause the dos box and see why it didn't work.

MK4 and all 3 Blitz's working with my on Windows XP x64.... running .129u3 (honestly, i've not run MK4 since .129u2 but it worked then).

are you talking about the PC version of MK4 (was there one?)

Yep, there's a version for the PC. I have it and it's not too bad.

Yes i am talking about the pc one. Does it run very well in mame? The PC version was great but it doesnt seem to work on xp x64. i heard there were some patches that were released several years after the game came out that may fix the issue but midway seems to have taken the files down.

With each progression of Windows comes a new crop of compatibility problems - sort it out Microsoft!

get the dreamcast emu and get MKgold

Does MK Gold run well on nulldc? I have Nulldc set up to play soul calibur and dead or alive on my cab so that seems like a good solution. The only reason im running XP is in anticipation of Street Fighter 4. So far the only problem is MK4 and mame isnt as fast as it was on ubuntu x64. Street fighter 4 will be worth it. Thanks for the suggestions.

I just tried MK Gold on my NullDC and it ran perfectly, no graphics or sound errors and no lag.
My system is a Q6600@3.6ghz though
I never played Mk4 so I did not like it lol, I tried the Mame version and it was not nearly as nice. It's all about the MK Trilogy :P

Err at this point thats an old version of Windows and it isn't up to Microsoft to make sure 32bit apps work on 64bit OSes. Thats up to the people who wrote the game in the first place.

Yes there is, but it wont run on Vista :(
I recommend deal with UMK3 for Mame or Trilogy for N64

No ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---, Sherlock. However software developers aren't always aware of OS updates so how they gonna do that? That'd be like a third-party game company trying to write a game for Playstation 4 right now - who knows what's gonna be needed? MS should be addressing backwards compatibility as important - as console manufacturers finally acknowledged with this generation of consoles and made efforts to make old software playable.
If MS did that maybe we wouldn't gripe over having to fork out 100 notes for their latest 'must-have' standard, only to find out that loads of stuff we've got doesn't work. Games are one thing, but loads of apps I know my friends liked using just don't work on new OS builds. :banghead:
