Ok Ok, I'm a noob :dizzy: but I understand how MAME arcades work in principal...however...
if I were to keep the jamma workings of my cab in place, could I interchange between a Jamma and MAME system? That would blow my tiny mind.
Has anyone completed such a project? Judging by the ingenious stuff people post everyday I'll bet the boys and girls at BYOAC can sort it no bother.
Inspiration required and much appreciated.
Peace and love,
;D

Yes it would be simple.
Leave the jamma board in place, disconnect the jamma harness and connect it to your JPAC whenever you want to use your mamebox, switch it back to you jamma pcb when you want to play your original game.
I suppose you could even rig up some type of switch, but the manual unplugging of the harness and replugging it in, is just as simple.

Yeah, I had a MAME rig in my MultiJAMMA (http://www.multigame.com/jamma.html) for a while and don't build a rig anymore without a JPac, specifically so I can swap them in and out easily.
JAMMA standard is amplified audio, so I put an audio amplifier circuit (I build them from electronics kits when they go on sale or you can rip one out of a set of PC speakers) between the sound card and the JPac, so it is a completely plug-and-play experience.
Somewhere I have a picture of a one of those rigs but I'll be damned if I can find it right now ...
EDIT: Found it and here is a thread that may be useful

Thanks for that pic Cheffo, and the thread was great, I am currently working on same, and have done the audio in a similar fashion.

Ive done the same except I've a set of satellite speakers and a sub in my cabinet for the pc sound

Hey all,
Thanks for the advice - that thread is very useful indeed.
JPACS are pretty nifty.
Right I'd better get cracking, this cabinet isn't going to MAME itself.

You could even get a JAMMA switcher and keep MAME as, say, #1 and add up to 5 additional JAMMA devices and switch between the 5 + MAME on the fly.
