EDIT: NEWEST STUFF IS LOCATED AT END OF THREAD
My wife makes custom crocheted crafts.
http://playtimecreations.etsy.com (http://playtimecreations.etsy.com)
She is currently making arcade pillows. If you have an idea for a custom craft, she can make it happen.
Pillows: 12"x12" 100% hand crafted
$20 ea. single sided design
$30 ea. double sided design
Discounts applied to larger orders.
-
Note: My wife pointed out a few flaws in this one that were corrected in the new pattern and pillows. You can see that there are occasional glitches in the symetry of the stiches. Thus, the price has dropped to $15+shipping.
Price is now $15 shipped.
This pillow sucked and noone wanted it. See later in the thread for the newest designs.
-
Here is an assortment of Galaga pillow goodies. These pillows are two sided. Pillows can be ordered either single sided or double sided.
Have one more bug to do (the red/white/blue one), then moving on to make pacman/Ms. pacman pillows.
-
I would buy Berzerk robots... probably easier to do too since they are one solid colour. Maybe 1 of the guy from Berzerk and a couple robots... let me know if you can get those made and I'll talk to the wife about the expense.

100% do-able. Just let me know via pm exactly what, and how many you want.
-
I can tell you without asking her that the wife is going to want to know dimensions. There's no scale in the photos.
-
I haven't ever measured them. They are somewhere between 12" and 14" I am pretty sure. The pillows inside are custom made black to fit the finished product.
I'll get some definite measurements today and update this post.
-
That size seems about right. For now quote up a set of 4 - three robots and the soldier. Maybe robots of different colors if that affects anything. Don't start them yet as I have to look and see if we actually have the funds this month.

Your box already went out unfortunately. I think this one will end up in the hands of one of my friends.

The next 2 sets to be done are Pacman stuff, and bubble bobble stuff. I have had 2 people request bubble bobble, i think they will get the green light next.
Also, the wife started a store front at http://playtimecreations.etsy.com
I still prefer to take orders here (to save on fees), but feel free to use that site if you want for the alchemy stuff.
-
I got my pillows a couple weeks ago and love em, no time to review them, but they are VERY high quality
-
That berzerk set is sweet, great work wife of Shardian! :applaud:
-
The white robot is all blurry! :laugh2:

Those Berzerk pillows look great!

How do you make it all blury? Special yarn?
I think that Bub and Bob is a winner!

Those Berzerk pillows look great!
Glad you like them. I will have another Berzerk Soldier and White robot available by Monday if anyone would like their own set. ;D
-
Hey how much for a blue dino from bubble bobble with that tight stitching like she did with eeyore and tigger?
-
Hey how much for a blue dino from bubble bobble with that tight stitching like she did with eeyore and tigger?
She would have to make a custom pattern for that. Those Winnie the pooh things are huge (tigger is about 2 feet tall!), and took her a long time to make with a pattern. If she made this one much smaller - approximately 10" tall or so, it may not be too hard. I will have to talk to her about price.
Either way, it is a cool project I know she would like to do. She's made a few custom patterned dolls, and they always turn out cool.

Berzerk 2 pillow set listed at:

The Berzerk pillows have arrived. They're good! Definitey order something from them, they're making good stuff at a great price.
-
Did you get a price for bob (bubble bobble) dino?
-
Did you get a price for bob (bubble bobble) dino?
Why this is the most popular theme, I'll never know. ;)
Anyways, Wife has completed 2 Bob fronts. Bub will be an identical pattern, but appropriate colors of course. One guy on KLOV has already placed an order for a 2 sided bubble bobble pillow. There will be an extra set of bub and bob available for the next in line. Due to the pattern, these had to be a little bigger - a little over 13" square I think. Price is still the same though:
$20 single design pillow
$30 double sided pillow.
Note, there is a stray speck of white near bob's mouth that I noticed after taking the pic. It will be corrected.
-

Thanks for the compliment Chad!
About pricing: There have been 2 other people I know of who have sold arcade related pillows on etsy. Both are made of fabric squares and sewn together. One only sells a sham and you supply the $20 pillow insert, and she charges almost double what we charge for the whole pillow!
The other lady makes them the same way (sewn fabric squares), but as a complete pillow. She still charges almost double ours.
So while at first glance it seems high, it is very reasonable for custom craft work.
-
New pillow set is done:
Galaga bug pillows. If you want a bug and a ship, she can make more ships.
-
Thanks for the compliment Chad!
This morning the kids were playing 4 pillow monty with them using the white robot as the goal. :)
-
That Bob is pretty sharp. Now if you only could make the weave tighter, it'd be tits.
-
That Bob is pretty sharp. Now if you only could make the weave tighter, it'd be tits.
It can be done, but at either a cost of size (about half), or cost of price (about double). To get the same size pillow with a tighter weave would require twice the work and twice the materials.
I'll be posting the finished double sided pillow later today. One is spoken for, but a second will be available shortly.
Her next project will probably be a 3D bub/bob character doll,as requested on KLOV. It would have a tight pattern like the Winnie the Pooh guys on the flickr page.
-
2 sided Bubble Bobble Pillow is done. Wife used a smaller hook, so it's still 12x12.
One is spoken for, but a 2nd one will be done tommorrow. Price is $30 + shipping.
-
thats not fair, I cant afford to buy all those =(
I love my galaga pillows and they'll jus have to suffice for now
-
These are very cool. Wish I had money to spend...
-
Bump to remind everyone a double sided bub/bob pillow is available. Of course the stuff on Etsy is also ready (http://playtimecreations.etsy.com) .
Current projects being worked on are:
Pacman ghost pillows
bubble bobble plush doll
Galaga blanket
-
galaga blanker?
you ---smurf---. you know I need one of those. how much for a swell friend like me? lol
-
Now don't pop a vessel or anything, but the blanket will be $90 plus shipping. That may seem like alot, but it puts hourly wages at sub sweatshop rates. I estimate that between the two of us (this is mainly my project - I'm comfortable enough in my masculinity to admit this ;)), there will be about 50 hours invested.
It is about 30% done at the moment, mainly because it is a backburner project.
-
Handmade stuff like that takes hours. No getting around it - if you want it well made you pay for it.
-
Is that Bub / Bob pillow still available? ;)
-

Okay, both Bubble Bobble pillows are spoken for. As always, if you see anything you want or have another idea, more can be made.

pssst.... plush Bob (Bubble Bobble) doll is done. Who wants to see it? :)

Show me the BOB!

Sorry for the delay - I was out of town all day for work.
As Promised...
-
Thats not bad.
How much for the dino?
-
Well here's the thing about this guy. He's for sale - but not until she makes a bub. She has to use this one for reference to make an official pattern. Personally, I think it's pretty amazing she can make something like this without any pattern, and just a low res snap shot as a reference!
Price will be $40+shipping

Very cool, nice work. That could turn into a pretty good side business....good luck :applaud:
-
We just might have a few bubble bobble plushes available. 2 of them are spoken for. The rest are up for grabs.
-
Left and center blue Bob's are still available. Others are sold.
$40 + shipping each.
-
First Q*Bert guy done. He is a small one, and is more of a proof of concept before making a large guy. He is around 4-5" as he stands in the picture.
A guy this little would be $15. + shipping. There will also be a medium fellow that will be 2" or so bigger, and then a large fellow relative in size to the Bubble Bobble guys.
Q*Bert is so....odd! The wife finished him and said "What IS this thing? I need to play the game more to understand...".
Picture linking is dead, so here are photobucket pics. click photo for larger view.

Okay, here are the 1st 2 q*berts. As you can see, the new one has shorter, stockier legs that match the game better. It takes some posing, but both do indeed stand on their own as shown.
So do you guys think this one is satisfactory, or does it need any more improvements? Any constructive advice/criticism is appreciated.
-
#1 with the longer/bent legs looks right, the second one not so much.
-
heh, everyone over at KLOV did not like the first one at all.
-
Odd considering Qbert doesn't have stumpy little straight legs. Meh
-

They are bendable/poseable.
-
shardian how hard would it be for her to do a Raccoon Mario blanket? I'm talking about a big Mario too. I'd go like a hundred bucks easy.
-
Odd considering Qbert doesn't have stumpy little straight legs. Meh
It's a matter of proportion. The second one isn't PERFECT, but it's close enough. The first one looks like those weirdo bumbies you put on the end of pencils. And if you look closely in the game, Q-bert's legs don't flex. They are STRAIGHT. And pretty thin. It's the eyes bobbing up and down that gives the illusion of jumping.
-

I don't think we'll be doing a blanket any time soon. Blankets just take way too long. To put it in perspective, making a typical 5x8 blanket would be like making 20 pillows! Something in the range of 3'x4' though would be do-able for around $120. a 3x4 blanket is pretty worthless for anything but a baby blanket though.
-
Here is revision #3 of Qbert. As you can see, his nose and feet have been revised. Also, the eyes were integrated into the pattern, so they are flat now. Another eye option that some may like would be 'googly eyes'. You know, the sewn on plastic eyes in which the pupil can shake around in there. Those would be pretty cool.
The first 2 little guys on the left are up for clearance offers. $5 + shipping for the little guy, and $10 + shipping for the middle guy. Either can be put in a padded envelope for cheaper shipping. They'll get a little smushed in the process though, and you have to fluff them back up.
-
Price for final revision is $30 +shipping.
-
How much for a Pikachu pillow shipped to the UK, using the sprite from Pokemon Red, Blue or Yellow (you decide which, you can compare them here (http://"http://serebii.net/pokedex/025.shtml"))? I know it's not arcade-related, but it would mean a lot to my friend. Maybe with a 'H' or 'Holly' on it somewhere.
Many thanks
-
Time for a bump I suppose. We decided to take a break from the crochet stuff for a while. I did some of my gameroom projects, the wife did some of her sewing projects. Now it is time to get back to work!
Currently, we are trying to knock out the galaga ship blanket that has been hanging around since we started this. After that, we have a few queued projects to do. After thaaaaat, we would like to come up with a coily plush to go with Qbert. In the meantime, we have some finished stock ready for new homes:
There are 2 plush blue "Bob" dolls left. If you prefer a set, she can make a matching green Bub to go with it.
There are some Berzerk pillows left
There are 2 Galaga bug pillows. A matching ship can easily be made to go with these. They would also go great with the blanket being made. ;)
I think there might be a pacman ghost pillow or two in the pile also.
If you have previously contacted me about a custom job, I probably remember and will be contacting you shortly - if not already. If I miss you while going through old PM's feel free to remind me.
-
Here is the latest project for byoac member Somunny. It was quite an interesting request, and turned out wonderfully. If anyone has any other systems they'd be interested in doing, my wife is more than open to requests. I might have her make an NES one for myself.
Without further ado, I present pics.

Got the SNES cover over the weekend and it's awesome, of course! :applaud:

Mario? ;)
-
Mario? ;)
We're at a point where custom requested projects can/will keep us busy. I think current examples/feedback more than show the quality level to be expected, and what any project would look like. As such, I don't see random stuff being made in the near future. If there is something you seriously would want made for yourself, feel free to make an official order.

Newest project: Gorf plush
His feet had to be made larger to allow him to stand up on his own. A good breeze will still send the 'angry Hershey Kiss' toppling over. My wife coined the angry hershey kiss phrase while making him, because she had no clue what a Gorf was. I myself never understood how a cool robot transformed into the on-screen representation, so I couldn't explain it any better.
Anyways, Mr. Gorf dude is $35 + shipping.
-
Ms. Pacman stuff:
-
My wife's work got popped in Gameroom magazine this month. Pretty darn cool! Consequently, I had to rush and update our Etsy account with stuff to buy. These are projects that are done and ready to ship out:
http://playtimecreations.etsy.com
I'll have a few more new pillow projects to post this weekend.
-
New project: Classic arcade pillow set.
This was a hard one for me to embrace. I'm kind of anal about symmetry, so I like every pattern to be an even square - 32x32 or something like that. The Mario and Centipede designs just wouldn't allow it to be that way without making huge pillows. So, I tricked my anal side - there is one square, one tall, and one long, and they all go together. Sounds like balance to me!
As always, if anyone is interested in one of these new designs we can always make more.
-
Looks good.

Well, it is done! I present to you, the Mario Raccoon Blanket.
This was a huge and challenging project. The design phase continued throughout the project, because logistic issues kept popping up. Color decisions had to be made, because the SNES pallet was sorely lacking. Minor mistakes were made, but that's the nature of the beast with handmade crafts.
The biggest issue was dealing with the discrepancy between the length and width of a row. Crochet work never turns out square. With small projects, it is negligible. With solid colors, it is moot. With something this big and with this big of a hook, it became apparent in the checkerboard it was going to be a major problem. We compensated in the checkerboard to keep from throwing away a ton of hours of work, and then had to completely rethink the rest of the blanket. We experimented with different methods for a while, when I finally came to the idea of adding an additional row per actual game pixel. This added a significant amount of work, but worked out perfectly for the center portion. Otherwise, the blanket would have been much shorter, and mario would have looked like some Goomba's got ironic revenge. ;D
The curtains were a pain. We had to toss out the entire first row of curtains because they looked horrid with the lighter colored shading. The solid color turned out much, much better.
As you can see in the pictures, the blanket is reversible. Overall size is 42" wide and 90" long.
-
That looks awesome! :applaud:
-
Yeah, the wife is going to freak when she sees it for Christmas. SMB3 is her 3rd favorite videogame so she'll love it. Shardian, you think the wife's little hands can handle maybe a Zelda/Link 8bit blanket sometime around the first of the year? My birthday is coming up in Feb. It looks awesome man. I love it and the wife will too.
Sean

Newest project: Charlie Chuck from Food Fight.
WARNING for VECTORMAN!!!!!!! DO NOT LOOK BELOW HERE IN THIS POST!!!!
STOP HERE... SERIOUSLY!
Okay, for the rest of you, here are the pictures.
-
Here are two 'action shots' from the Mario blanket. I don't think the scale of the blanket id really obvious just from giving numbers. First pic is on a king size bed for reference.
-
Michelle has been on a roll the last few days. Here is one more new project, though it is a rehash of the original that started this whole thing. Some of you may remember the Mario & Luigi dolls she made me for Christmas last year. Well she got an order for one of those. Since her skills have improved immensly since that first ever free-form project, she decided to make a totally new design. I present to you the 'new and improved' Mario Doll.
-
That mario doll is AWESOME
-
More of these guys. People apparently just LOVE Bubble Bobble.
These pillows are slightly different than the last ones - they have more black around the edges to better center the character.
-
would love to have a mario doll they are sweat
the sm3 blanket is also very bad azz
can tell skills are getting much better and tighter stiched A++

I've been running around in circles with the fellow who commissioned this project for way too long now. I really don't have a choice but to assume he's backed out on me.
As such, this blanket is available immediately.

Awww, that's horrible. Makes you guys put in all that work, then gives you the run-around...that's pretty low-brow.
If I could afford it, I'd snatch this up in a heart-beat!

Like I said on KLOV, I would rather hope the guy has flaked than think something bad has happened to him. I've written the guy and told him my deal stands if he shows back up and it hasn't sold yet - no hard feelings. No worries on our end, because I don't think it will be a problem to sell it. I just wanted to try and get it sold during the Christmas season if possible. Lots more potential buyers out this time of year.

New project: Raccoon Mario plush doll
Michelle has been working on this one as 'eye strain' relief during breaks from other jobs for a while now. He is 10.5" tall.
He is not a commission project, so he is available for immediate sale. Price is $50 shipped to lower 48 states.
-
Been a while since I bumped the thread over here.
Anyways, I'm excited to say that I sold the mario blanket on etsy last night. I knew that would work out fine.
If anyone is interested, the most current pillows sets we have done are from Mappy and Qbert.
Visit http://playtimecreations.etsy.com (http://playtimecreations.etsy.com) to see the Mappy pillows. We're experimenting a bit with pillows by allowing you to mix and match if you want. No pics of the Qbert pillows yet. Hope to get them up in the next day or two.
The next project in the queue will be a Coily plush to go with the large Qbert plush.
-
Some new projects to unveil.
First off, here is the new Qbert pillow collection. Soon a coily will be made to pair with the qbert plush doll.
There is still one Qbert doll immediately available if anyone is interested. As always, if you see anything in this thread, on Etsy, or on my FLickr page, new ones can be made for you. If you have an idea of something you want made, contact me, because we do most work on commission basis now.
Next is a pillow to pair with the Charlie Chuck Foodfight pillow. I included the original Charlie Chuck for reference.
-
Man, these pillows are absolutely INCREDIBLE.. You guys gotta give props here... Anyway, I was actually considering a pillow or two myself... I REALLY dig the shading and workmanship on the Coily (snake from Q*Bert) design!!! The Mappy ones are cool too!
-
I still have and love my pillow. I loved that mario blanket but I couldnt afford it

I have a galaga ship blanket about 60% complete that I'll be putting up for sale soon. ;)
-
Bump for anyone who hasn't seen this before. If you see anything previous we've made, it can be remade. If you have new ideas for a commission based project, just shoot me a PM and we can talk about it.
We have several finished projects in stock ready to go at:
http://playtimecreations.etsy.com (http://playtimecreations.etsy.com)
We will also have a new set of the popular Bubble Bobble plush dolls finished this week if anyone is interested in them.
-
I just posted a new pair of Bubble Bobble dolls on Etsy if anyone is interested. You can buy them there, or just contact me here to purchase direct.

Official announcement: COILY PLUSH DOLL!
Here is the long awaited doll to pair with your Qbert.
Pics really speaks for themselves I think.
He will be $40, just like Qbert. This first one will be $35+shipping. Future coily's are done with a slightly different stitch that works a bit better for Michelle and give a neater coil. I will also offer a $5 discount to anyone who has bought from me before if they want one - $10 discount on a set of this and Qbert. To claim the discount, you just have to post a pic of your previous purchase - either you posing with it, or it setting with a game. I suppose sitting on the couch is fine too. ;)
-
Introducing the latest item from my wife's talented hands: A Bubble Bobble baby blanket.
This was a custom project for a member at KLOV. It is by far the biggest project we have done. Although it is smaller than the Mario blanket, it was more than twice as much work.
-
No comments?
Hey MameMaster, feel free to put Michelle in the mag again. ;) ;) ;)
Just let me know if so, because I'd have to buy the issue as a one-off. Sadly I had to let my subscription lapse due to tight fundage.
-
Must have missed this one when it came by, nice looking blanket. Tell your wife to keep up the good work!
