Hey guys, I picked up an empty cab recently that I converted to a mame arcade and I noticed it still had some decals on the back door. Does anyone here know what arcade game this might have been before, I'm just curious. ;D
-
Looks like it was made from scrap.
I don't know of a single machine that has graphics on the back door. ;)
(besides, those just make no sense aesthetically speaking )
Does it match anything that was on the sides of the cabinet when you first got it?
-
no, actually there were no decals at all, just on the back, (that's what got me curious) the sides looked like they were painted black with that speckle paint stuff. It had no marquee, no control panel and it had a standard 2 player coin door. The machine is a beast so I thought at one time or another it might have been a 4 player game like tmnt or simpsons.
-
Have you a few pics of the sides and front, someone will know by the shape, have you tried removing the black on the sides to see if the original artwork is underneath?
-
yea I would probably have to sand the sides down to see if any decals are left but I don't want to ruin it, I kind of like that grainy old school look ;) I put some more pics but they are not that good so it might not help much. I did notice that on the coin door it has 50 cents instead of the usual 25 cents and when I look inside by the coin mech it has a date of 1993, so I don't know if thats the year made or the last time it was serviced? I actually plan on changing a few more things on my cab, like that x-arcade tankstick, I was able to find a real 4 player control panel taken from an arcade that I bought and will just use the x-arcade guts he he. thanks for the replies, keep em coming, I'm bored at work.

Looks as if it used to be a Konami 4-player cabinet? Looks like my Simpsons: http://s242.photobucket.com/albums/ff97/infernolab/Arcade%20Game/?start=all
And my Spy Hunter did have artwork on the *bottom*. They definitely did use scrap pieces at times to finish the cabinets!

Any paper remnants stapled inside or whatever of a manufacturer ?
Sometimes they stuck stickers around the monitor frame as well.
Looks like an NBA JAM to me.
-
damn I'm blocked from photo bucket :'( The only stick I was able to find after removing all the crap inside was that one that was by the coin door, I will take a look at it and see if it has the company's name. I was just confused with the decals on the back because I know alot of arcade games from the early 90's era and it just looks weird to me, like one that i've never seen before.
-
That's a lotta ---smurfin--- real estate for an X-arcade trackball. General midway cab of some sort. My favorite.
-

its close but the speaker "grill" tells me simpsons or ninja turtles.
the midways have metal there and the speaker holes are round holes.

I was wondering about that also.... I didn't realize those came that size.
I thought they only came like this:

Aside from conversion kits.....
I think Simpsons and TMNT used the same cabinet didn't they?
I'm still leaning towards a Midway.
The coin door is kinda throwing me a little off also.
-
Def not a Simpsons or TMNT - it only has one set of coin doors. Also not a Sunset Riders (another Konami 4 player).
-
Did the cabinet happen to have the original power supply still in it ?
(I know you mentioned it was pretty much empty)
-
def not a midway, coin door is the wrong size, and the afore mentioned speaker area.
the speakers and shape scream 4 player konami (TMNT, Simpsons, XMen)
Konami 1993......
Hope the marquee isnt a dead Give away... it COULD be a martial Champion

Oh. Didn't look at that marquee. A full on side shot would help. That CP really skews things.

Naw they come in the regular and then they have the tankstick xxl, they had a nice special on them awhile back and I got it for cheap, but now I don't really like it anymore its too huge and I don't really use the trackball much either.

yea it had the original power supply in it, but I threw it away since all the wires were cut off anyway

lol, naw I put that cheesy Martial Champion marquee on there. Yea I thought it was also a Midway but the coin doors look different and also the front part of the arcade is kind of different its like double sided so that confused me.
-
it looks like a martian champion cab the more I look at it. 1993 Konami cab, single coin door slot, tell tale speaker holes..........
wouldnt that be ironic?
-
yea that would be too ironic, almost as if it was meant to be. but the weird thing is that there aren't too many martial champion cabinet pics on the internet that I could find. Well..not that weird the game did kind of suck, but the marquee and side art were great

Yeah, I kept looking at that coin door thinking "Midway used the wider more square coin door", but still couldn't pinpoint a Konami cabinet to suit either. (which Konami did seem to use the skinnier style) Most of the 4 player Konami's I saw had a double coin door setup.
:dunno

You may want that extra space though if you continue to add controls later on.
Perfect size for a four player setup.
I just didn't realize they had that version.
-
yeah thats the tricky part, Midway used the same basic cab for 2 and 4 player games (NBA Jam, NHL Open Ice, Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat, etc) and even the same coin door, just with an extra set of mechs )hence the wider door. I think Konami did the same thing, used identical cabs for 2 and 4 player but instead of cutting out 2 holes for 2 sets of coin doors they just cut one in the middle.
all the pix I fond of Martial champion dedicated cabs look just like your cab, so its my best guess it was a martian champion. the only other US released konami game in the US in 1993 was Gaiapolis and it was a vertical game.
-
yea its making more and more sense that it just might be a MC arcade and another thing I remember is that there was no hole or opening like to insert a big control panel like a 4 player or mortal kombat one, so it looked like they just had a flat piece of board as the control panel. This is like the best pic I can find, so I think it just might be that :applaud:

So where did you get your marquee from then ?

So did you cut it out then to make room for the X-Arcade unit?
The squared off area is what made me think it was originally a four player cabinet.
-
I got it from mamemarquees.com, and yea I had to cut off a chunk to make room for the tankstick. I wish i still had my old pics that I took when I first got it, I will have to look around...but anyways when I first got it, it had the t molding going all the way from top to bottom, like there was no spacing or piece removed around the cp area, thats what through me off even more cause I couldnt figure what type of panel would fit there.
-
Ah .... now that makes a big difference.
Meaning it was NOT a four player machine originally.
