Title: joystick gamepad conflict
Post by: Bender on February 14, 2009, 11:03:35 am
i've done some searching and I can't seem to come up with an solution to this problem

I have a U360 as the main controller on my cab but I have added a wireless gamepad for a second player and for non mame emulators

the problem is that in XP they both show up, but they both seem to occupy Joy 1 so some weird things are happening
is there a way in XP to assign a joystick ID?

Change your U360's ID in UltraMAP

ok I have the u360 set as ID 1
the gamepad set as ID 2

but the computer is still seeing the Gampad as the first joystick and the U360 as the second

I know I can set the Mame configuration so player 1 is joy 2 but then if the game pad isn't plugged it will default back to joy 1 and nothing will work, and I'll have to set up every emulator that way too

Help! Please!

I ran into this same issue.  I could not find a way around it.  Just always leave your Gamepad plugged in?

You can tell windows which joystick to "prefer".  Then programs which, by default, only use "joy1" will instead use whatever joystick you have set up as the preferred stick.  It doesn't allow you to tell windows which one should be "joy1" or "joy2" or "joy3" though.

To do this, go into the gamepad settings in the control panels.  I believe its in the properties there somewhere.
