Im restoring a bubble bobble and id like to keep it as acurate as possible on the beat up panel I have it had microswitches on it.. personally I like leafs better but also wanted to retain the games original buttons that it used. So when this game was distributed in the US by Romstar did it use Leaf or Microswitches for the buttons ? Also what colors did they send out.
And lastly.. the generic romstar control panel overlay that was beat up was blue with yellow romstar text, Ive also seen Bubble Bobble with blue generic romstar with red text, Which one is correct ?

Not really sure about any of this, but for 1986 it's most likely leafs. I've got a couple of complete conversion kits for games in released in 1989 and 1991 and they both came with leafs for both the joysticks and buttons. Now, these are Konami and not Romstar/Taito, and I'm not sure if the entire industry made the switch from leaf to micro at the same time, but if you can't get a solid answer one way or the other, then I'd think that going with leafs is a solid bet.
Looking at the instruction manual for Bubble Bobble linked at KLOV, it does mention that it comes with 2-way joysticks. Are you going to use 2-ways?

Yeah I already have 2-Way wico's that the game used, but just trying to clean up the leafs, taking the sodder off etc.

If they used Wico leafswitch joys, then it's a safe bet they also used Wico leafswitch buttons.

Was thinking the same exact thing....... generally if you find any original controls with leafs in a game, everything should be leafs.

I think that ive come to the conclusion that it used leaf buttons, and the colors should be / or were:
JUMP Buttons : Blue or Red.
Bubble Button : Red or Blue
P1,P2 START : WHITE

Neither, 2-way Wicos for the US Distributed by Romstar. See a few posts above this one to see the Wico 2-way restrictor plate.
