Title: Looking for collapsible cabinet plans
Post by: unastrike on June 25, 2003, 02:24:29 pm
Or perhaps some ideas on how to make the cabinet collapsible so it's somewhat easy to take apart and move.

I'm building a non-traditional cabinet that will house my TV, numerous game consoles, PC, etc. More of an entertainment center, really, with some artwork and a control panel.  ;)

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate it. ;D

ummm...sound like you want a cabinet that comes in 2 piece right?
Frosty's plan might do ! :)

You may look into building yourself a showcase cab.  Something like most modern fighters are in.  I think my next cab will be a showcase.  That way I can build the monitor stand to double as an entertainment center and have the controls removeable.  Here is a rough sketch I just whipped up in paint. :)

Excellent... thanks for the help , guys. I was actually looking at Frosty's site just last night and marvelling at his wonderous price-is-right-wheel-o-fun dealy. Pretty cool. Although, his two-piece (top and bottom) wasn't going to work out for me because of the narrow stairway leading down to the basement.

Know what's funny? When I first started this project, I had a 27" TV that I was going to use and was seriously considering the showcase-style cab. As it turned out, the picture quality just wasn't up to snuff... so I scrapped it and opted to use a leftover PC monitor. A little 17" screen would just look silly in a showcase. So I set out to look for more traditional cabinet plans.

I just got a new TV and tried out the s-video out hookup on the PC last night... and it's beautiful. Just gorgeous. So I decided to use this new TV and make it an entertainment center kinda deal. The TV's big... the speakers are connected to the side of the screen making it almost 3' wide. That's why I was looking for some kind of collapsible cabinet plans.

BUT!!!

madk just reminded me of the idea I had in the first place. ;D Thanks for that, man.

I can make this thing three pieces. First, the top half with the TV housing, marquee, and stereo speakers. Second, the bottom half styled like an entertainment center. And third, the control panel 'island'. All three pieces, when separate, would easily make it downstairs.

Once again, thanks for the help.
