Title: Felt Pen Removal

Hello,

Restoring an old Missile Command...

The nice rocket graphics on one  side of the cabniet has been colored in with black felt pen, is there any solution out there that will remove this, leaving the original paint.

The safest way I know is to scribble over the marker several times with a DRY ERASE marker.  Apparently, "permanent" markers and dry erase use the same solvent base, but the dry erase is, of course erasable!  I've used this to get Sharpie off my monitor when Windex failed.  (Don't ask why I wrote on my monitor with a Sharpie...   :-/

Immediately after scribbling over the old marker, wipe away the dry erase with dry paper towels or scrap cloth.  You may need to repeat this a few times.  This will probably only work if the printing underneath has a slick finish.  If the surface is porous and the pen has soaked through, I doubt anything else will get it off.

Dan, I know it sounds crazy but I have had some good luck with plain old WD-40 to remove marker sometimes, as well as adhesive residue. don't use to much elbow grease or you could scuff the graphics, just let it set a little and wipe, won't cost much if it don't work! Take Care Matt

Common rubbing alcohol from the store/drugstore works well. Get the 99% strength.

I've got a bottle of solvent designed to remove pricing ink (remember when they used to stamp prices directly on objects in the supermarket?)

It takes permanent marker off any surface. I doubt it's still available though.

I like the tip on the dry erase marker, but I suppose afterwords it's best to discard the marker, lest anyone ruin their dry erase board. :-0

The dry erase trick works on glass and even plastic, but you have to be careful on porous material like wood.

Another "I know this sounds crazy method" - use carbureator cleaner. It does wonders with permanent marker and melamine...though it migh work the underlying paint to...
