Title: I've peeled cpo's off metal, but now wood seems to be more of a pain, Any Ideas?

I'm having a tough time peeling off a control panel overlay that was on wood for 20+years any methods to use ? It just cracks in little tiny sections, any type of chemical or solution I should try ?

Gell-based paint stripper.  Doesn't leave any 'oily' residue like Goo-Off / other stuff so the new overlay will still stick.

You will need to rough up the plastic to let the chemicals get in underneath (use a wallpaper "tiger" device to poke thousands of holes through the plastic), or you can use a wide putty knife to get under it as well and let the stripper get under the leading edge bit by bit.

I would use a heat gun to warm it up a bit to get it pliable. An oven not so much -- pr0k has pointed out that when polycarbonate burns it releases cyanide gas, which is "really not that good" (although it may be doing that when I heat it with my heat gun).

You have to hold it closer, but it worked for me.

Heat guns are available for $7.99 at Harbor Freight quite often, $9.99 almost all the time.

Acetone eats through almost anything in my experience.  Even dead hookers.

We really lost a good community service when stingray left.  DIY dead hooker disposal is a pain.

Acetone eats bees as well as dead hookers and control panel goo. It also makes potent jell-o shots, please try at your own risk.  ;D
