Title: Connecting 360/Wii/PC to LCD TV
Post by: Franco B on February 05, 2009, 07:50:15 am
I've just got my new Sammy LCD and I would like to know the best way to connect my 360, Wii and PC to it.

The TV has four HDMI ports, one set of component jacks, one set of composite jacks, one VGA and two scarts.

My 360 is only a standard version with no HDMI port. I'm guessing the best thing to do would be to use a VGA splitter/joiner or switch box to connect the 360 and PC to the VGA port and then get a component cable for the Wii to get 480p?

Would there be any problems with connecting the 360 to the TV though a VGA splitter/joiner or switch box? I guess the switch box would be better than a splitter/joiner cable in case I have both sources on at once. Any thoughts?

Connect the PC via DVI->HDMI
Wii via scart
360 via VGA.

Thanks, I hadnt thought about DVI>HDMI for the PC.

I'll still need the component Wii cable to get 480p though will I not? I have it connected by scart at the moment but that limits me to 576i.

If the Wii supports component then you could do that. Thought Wii was 480p @25/30fps, and that all stuff is upsampled from that. So PAL is upscaled 576i from 480p. In that case it is probably better to let the TV do it from the original signal.

Mine is hooked up via component cables.  Wii maxes at 480 and I think its 60hz I also want to say its 480i not 480p but its been so long since I bothered to look that I do not know.

Wii outputs 480P.  I don't know much about SCART since I'm a narrow minded American but I'm pretty sure you'd get a better picture with the component.

I hooked up my 360 via vga and it goes through a vga splitter with no loss in quality. I ordered the splitter from monoprice.com, but went with the "better" model of the ones they offered. Should be fine that way if you decide to go that route.

Make sure you hook up the 360 through VGA instead of component because the image is a lot better from VGA (at least in my experience).  :cheers:
