Title: Best way to attack ID3 tags for large, disorganized MP3 collection?
Post by: massive88 on February 03, 2009, 10:46:56 pm
Its long overdo for me to dive in and start working on getting a coherent organization and updating of ID3 tags/file names for my collection.

So I submit to you, the enlightened public, what tools have you all found to best make this seemingly impossible journey managable?  How should I best go about it to not make it a manual romp, file by file...

I have been using these 2 tools

Tag&Rename   http://www.softpointer.com/tr.htm

Mp3Tag   http://www.mp3tag.de/en/

i have a large Library and have been able to organize all of my mp3's with them, although it has taken a year to do it... (patience grasshopper)

hope this helps

I checked out a few programs last night, musicbrainz seems like the frontrunner, and a really interesting concept as well.

import the stuff to a fresh itunes install and let it organize the library. iTunes fills in a lot of stuff automatically then.

I tried mediamonkey before, at it got a lot of my music wrong.  Perhaps I just wasnt careful enough to oversee what it was doing.

Still looks like Musicbrainz is the winner, if someone has other suggestions or personal experience, please let me know!

Also for people who have used Musicbrainz, do you use Picard or Jaikoz or Magic MP3 Tagger?

I need to do this as well. I think my first step is going to be deleting all the junk I dont listen to, and stuff other people have downloaded.
