Forum members I need your help advice!
Ive brought a router, sander, jigsaw saints book and a 25" TV. Ive decided on plywood to build.
The only thing holding me back is that I cant decide on which shape cab to build.
I want a two stick six button each trackball control panel.
I want a draw for mouse and keybord
I also want a cab I can sit comfortable at with a bar stool and get feet and legs under.
I need a space freindly cabinet idealy on castors
I like the compact style of the defender cab
The luSID cab is good but I dont like the control panel sticking out.
I know most of the popular cabs so any ideas will be much appreciated

If you have a trackball, you won't need a mouse.
-
Look at Kneivel's projects - the slim and the neon come to mind.

yeah but he wants a keyboard draw so your statement is irrelevant.
ill find a link to the cab i like i cant remember what its called
EDIT here it is (http://cosmicjive.net/arcade/super/) always like the cab, not sure i'd go with the two level cp tho

You don't need a keyboard either. Just use the spinner like the Macbook Wheel to type your texts:

How so? I know that on my cab (23 5/8" wide), if I ever get around to installing a keyboard drawer, there's not much room for a standard keyboard and mouse, so depending on the cab design, the mouse might not be needed (especially if he's installing a trackball).
Of course, most the time, I don't even pull out my keyboard, I just use the on-screen one.

Mini keyboard:

Or buy a BT keyboard. They work up to 10 meters. The tiny Apple one is nice.
Does that iKey have a BT one without trackpad? I only see USB wireless. WTF is that?

Jeeze...I just posted a simple remark about how he might not need a mouse and it gets all blown out of proportion.
RayB - I was talking about my own experience. I have so many keyboards around here it would've been stupid of me to buy another, but I highly recommended a small keyboard to those looking to buy one for their cab.
As for a cab style recommendation, the slim and neon have already been mentioned, so I see no need to say anything else. (Truly awesome designs)

I made a wide-body defender cab:

Plenty of room for extras. I no longer need a keyboard or mouse. Google "joy2mouse" if you are gonna use a joystick encoder.

Thanks for that. Do you ever sit to this cab? Im guessing you just took the defender plans and made them wider?
I like the defender cab but was worried about the control panel being to small for 6 buttons+trackball.
As for the whole mouse issue....... Its not that important ;D I plan on connecting it to my home network to update etc so I would like a easy access keybord.

I've an original defender and its grand for 2player 6 buton, I've a trackball on it too but its not really usable as your hand hits the bezel when playing with it, have a look at the link I posted above, similar design to the defender with a nice control panel

I have an old Midway blitz cabinet that works great with stools. Since it's a separate box you can make the cp however big or small you want. I have 2p 6 buttons with a trackball and spinner. That's the same as mortal kombat, open ice, etc.

those cabinets are great, they are huge though

You could go with a design like this one we did for a customer:
It's based off a Golden Tee profile he liked, but with a more familiar marquee section shape and a shallower base instead of a straight front coming 90 degrees down from the control panel underside.

Yeah, I just made it a little wider...27" inside width. My control panel is not deep enough to mount a 3" trackball. I didn't factor it in when I made the cab. I missed by about an inch. Click my link below and you'll see the big difference between the CP area on my 1st and 2nd cab.
27" is wide enough for 2-player setup like Street Fighter, plus a 3" trackball. Click below to see the 3rd cab I'm working on.
Do I ever sit to it? ...I was looking for a barstool today at Costco...
Are you gonna network to with a program like UltraVNC? I use it for other computers in the house...but until now I never thought of connecting to my cabs!
...oh wait, I don't think I can with nLited XP. All the network stuff was stripped...

I like the second cab. Ive measured some doors in my house (should have done this a while ago!) and 'adjusting' the defender cab. Im also thinking of moving the coin door down and making its normal place thinnner and a bit longer to get a bigger cp in.
As for networking I havent thought that far ahead. I was gona do it the basic way with my wireless kit thoriugh windows.

I like the size and shape (for the most part) of my UAII cab but it is no where near compact.
