Title: Outdated Video Card or Mame?
Post by: garnerb350 on February 02, 2009, 03:49:38 pm
Can anyone help me with this?  I have Mame 129 ...my computer is a P4 2g memory, 128 mb Geforce video card.

When playing games such as Tekken series or Soul Calibers...the game is choppy and slow...music is choppy and or repeats...seems to happen in all the "3D Character games"

Now I know that Mame doesnt use much of graphic card juice.
Do I need to try the frame skipping tab in mame...or should I upgrade the video card?
My mind is saying no...My heart is wanting to kick Eddy Gordo arse...What do I do?

Mame doesn't run those games very well as they are going to need more of a CPU than we really have available right now.  You might want to look into the Zinc emulator for those games as it runs them better, but with 128mb I don't know how much better it will run though.

Again, a search, here and at Mameworld, will reveal extensive (as well as excessive) discussion on this.

Heh, my cabinet site has been under construction for 3 years now... Not sure when I'll get a chance to get it updated.

BUT

The circuit for the plunger that I used is from John's Retro Arcade Optical Pinball Plunger Circuit (http://www.johnsretroarcade.com/hardware_pinball.asp).  The plunger itself is just a Universal Ball Shooter Assembly (http://www.happcontrols.com/amusement/pinball/95008600.htm) from Happcontrols.com.  The circuit is then plugged into my Opti-pac and I-PAc4 from Ultiparc.com

Ive seen them before and I was like "Man , I got to get one!"....

I'm going the X-arcade route...maybe I can somehow tie it in...

Consider even using a PS1 emulator for those type of games. Zinc is fairly 'graphics card dependant' and can be a pain to setup with a front-end. Try ePSXe (for it's high compatibility rate with disc images) or pSX (which performs well at low spec and enables compressed disc image playback to save space).

That why I created my own configuration/wrapper for Zinc to perform easier to nearly any frontend (even it was designed for use with MultiFE):

without running the wrapper with a command, it just start the config, otherwice it trying to run the game (which can been use the romname and not the game number).
